@wet_rocks_reef i agree with your return pump math/logic - I also plan on 5* iso originally thinking of 10*; this is still highly debated but for me a good starting point; if I have to upgrade my pump so be it, lesson learned .
Fair
@wet_rocks_reef YES! i have same APS stand with the TS Triton ump and was trying to think of a way to still use the shelf - this is it!!! thanks for the idea!!
in addition to holding my dosers and power bricks for everything. It has been a magnet for some clutter… but better in the Stand that somewhere else!

Before I really get back to Work after the holidays I thought I’d post and update on the reef… so in December two things happened good and bad… (#2 is in the following post)

1. I had delt with a AFCI breaker tripping constantly over the course of 3 weeks, with the last week it happening while we took our youngest to Disneyland. That was super stressful, lucky my icecap backup kicked in… it ran my two 4K gyres at half the voltage at what I can estimate for 9 hours! And I think I could have ran for another 9 but glad I didn’t have to test that the icecap for that long. The weather that weekend was super cold by California standards and my tank drop down to 72 degrees. I was lucky that my oldest son was home and he was able to unplug everything and move it another circuit. That was a good hold over until I could get back home to figure out a fix.
After talking The electrician, AFCIs seem to be too sensitive for all the electrical stuff we use for our reefs so he came out and switched the breaker to a standard GFCI and everything seems to be working now, and no breaker pops over the rest of the month.

Ok part two in the next post.

Ok now the good part of this Hobby that has happened.
I have been able to add some more live stock that include some more corals and a new fish.

Here is what I added…

1 Myagi Tort
2 PC Rainbow
3. Acid Trip Millie
4. Green Slimmer
5. Red Planet Acro
6. Whitetail Kole Tang
7. Three torches.. green with green tops, green with peach tip and purple with peach tips

The Coral additions had to live through the 9 hour power outage so they are just starting to bounce back after about a month. Mainly my alk dropped based on a few missed scheduled doses of B-Ionic 2 part. I noticed I have had to raise the dosage about 10mls each day to keep up with new Alk and CA demands. So for my reef I am currently dosing 56 ml of two part each day. I like that 2 part is easy and don’t plan to change as long as I don’t get over 75 to 100 ml a day. I just purchased the 4 gallon buckets of two part so we will see how long that last.

My new fish is a white tail Kole tang. I saw a really nice one right after thanksgiving at Calikid corals and have been on the look out ever since. (Even though the price and size was right I couldn’t pull the trigger then as I wasn’t able to get it in my tank that night)

On New Year’s Eve Aquatic Collection (best reef store in the Bay Area) had a 20% off all live stock sale and found a great fish that I was able to bring home.

AC is about 45 min away and I was debating weather to even go as we had some flooding in our area.

The White tale I got has been great and since putting him in less than a week ago. I was surprised that the Purple tang was only Curious about the new friend and pretty much has been leaving him alone.
The white tail hides a lot but is eating and already doing what tanga do.

here are some pics of the livestock I got and some local flooding… happy 2022 is over. Welcome 2023!

Oh I miss my 50 gallon lagoon! I was surprised it only lasted me two years before I had the opportunity to upgrade. Here are some progression pics.. It came a long way In a short period of time.

On Saturday in the Bay Area we had the Winter Coral Farmers Market… looking for a few of my grails and found some deals I couldn’t pass up. Lots of great vendors and was lucky I didn’t spend all my money!

So I got an OG Bounce and a Glitter Bomb Goni! Here are some pics!

Great price for the two ($380).. and I even got a couple of freebies including a Yuma and some blue with yellow Zoas.

Hey,I really like your setup! I’m “shopping” for an upgrade to my IM 50g. How is your tank going? Any thing you would do differently now that it’s been running for a while?✌

Thanks for looking I love my setup.. as far as what I would do different.. perhaps plumb in a UV vs using two green killing machines..(the 2 9 watt green killing machines do a good job, but having less wires would be nice. I also like the AI blades and two glows would be sweet… but over kill with two radions.
