Last week I drained the tank and added new RODI and salted the tank up! Overall pretty simple. The Vectra provided most of the flow while I did do a little stirring.

I ran a little short of salt as you can see, but instant ocean is pretty easy to get so I will get the tank to 1.026 soon.

With all the premium salt mixes out there, I decided to use good old instant ocean as I find the parameters are very close to what I like my tank to run at.

That way if I get a big water change going I will not have a spike in my parameters.

I added some new sand to my scape.. I plan on rinsing my old sand and reusing that too.

I was able to turn on the Auto fleece roller… hope this will do some work with out me having to change filter socks anymore.

I am pretty excited to move everything over on Saturday. Here is how I plan to move everything over and where my corals and rocks will be placed.

Here is how it would look if I just lifted and shifted to the new tank. Looks like I will be spreading things out and not moving a few pieces over. (I know BAD Photo editing job!)

Over the past couple of weeks I have both of my GEN five eco-tech XR 30 pros installed and running the same schedule as my previous reef tank. The GEN fives do an awesome job with the spread even without the diffusers and having two of them versus one I believe I will be able to run both of the lights at a lower intensity by 5 ti 10 percent . During peak daytime lighting the lights do seem a little more white with the custom template I’ve been using.

We will see how it the corals respond.. I will also do a ramp up acclimation from 75 percent of my template intensity.

So excited over Father’s Day weekend I broke down the 50 gallon all in one innovative Marine nouveau to migrate Rocks corals and fish into the new hundred gallons set up! On Saturday I got a late start as my son was playing basketball and I wanted to watch his tournament. I got 2 PM and started the long journey…

My plan included…
1. Empty the tank of corals
2. Empty the tank of live rock
3. Transfer the fish to the new aquarium
4. Take out pumps that I’ll be reusing and soak them in a vinegar bath to clean
5. Scrub off live rock that I plan to use in the new set up
6. Empty out sand and rinse and dry in place in the new aquarium
7. Aquascaping new tank with old rock
8. Place corals into new set up
9. Plug-in all the electronics and complete wire management

Buckets and bins at the ready

Vinegar bath for equipment i am moving over.

Look at those large colonies! (i got this purple stylo when it was 4 small fingers)

I was happy that the montipora came right off the back acrylic of the tank
this will not be going into the new tank

My nice smaller corals I put in a small container to keep them safe.

Rocks went into this container

Larger corals where set up with a gyre to keep water flowing.

The tank is now empty and the smell of the ocean is real!

Looks great, how are you liking the INT long overflow? I too have a Nuvo AIO and looking to upgrade in the next few months.

So far so good. after having an AIO here are my thoughts...

-I really like how close you can get the tank to the wall. An external overflow for me would have the tank two far away from the wall.
-Plumbing was a little challenging when connecting the bulk heads to piping and unions because you are under the tank and it was a little bit of a tight squeeze
-The overflow is big so I used it as an opportunity to stick my heaters back there. This may have a side benefit, if my return pump fails heat will be generated in the overflow where the main display will get some heating vs the sump where no display water will get heated.
-I run vertical two 4k gyres are either side and the trapezoid design does a good job hiding some of the pumps

The upgrade has been awesome to this point!

About 10 1/2 hours later I was really excited to be done with the move lots of work and still a few more things to do.

I was on the homestretch with the build and decided to fill my ATO container up with water. I guess it was my biggest mistake not to test the ATO for leaks. It could have been damaged during shipping. It started leaking at the bottom from the front bottom seam in the back bottom seam. I rushed over to the bathroom to drain it I guess I’ll have to wait to set up my HBO in the meantime I’ll set up a bucket on the side of my tank.

I really liked how the tank is turning out.

cord management is next on the list

Wow I can’t believe it’s been a month and a half since I last posted! So, as far as updates with the reef, I have been letting everything settle in while making minor adjustments to the lighting and filtration. Mostly I am letting my my Cheato ball to grow In my refugium. I am still trying to dial in my alkalinity as I am still getting some moderate swings. Once the parameters start settling in I will be adding some acros on my art reef rocks scape.

For the last month I did add quite a few fish to my tank with mostly success. I did have a small wrasse that found its way to the sump twice and then decided to jump out of my tank onto the floor.. I was too late. :smiling-face-with-tear:

Here are the fish I added so far…

4 Bi Mac Anthias
1 yellow coris wrasse (sadly he was a jumper)
1 Medium Sailfin Tang
1 Square Anthias male

existing…
1 purple tang
1 flame angel
1 sunrise dottyback
1 threadfin Anthias
1 blotchy anthias
1 Wyoming white clown
Paired with a
1 Mocha da Vinci clown

so with 13 fish I am fully stocked!

Thank you DeadEnd! I appreciate you!!!I love the Sump... many people think the fleece roller is tricky and temperamental, but for me it has been doing a great job.. glad I didn't go bigger than the 34 as I barely had enough room for my controller board and ATO.

Very nice setup - I really enjoyed reading about your entire remodel/upgrade process. More anthias, heh? You must really love those guys (that blotch anthias is a fairly rare and expensive fish!) A small sailfin or desjardini tang would love the new tank!
Found a Sailfin! and my Purple tang is getting along with him!

Very nice build and thank you for the details. I'm sure that the visual of the person enjoying the tank in your blueprint subconsciously helped sell the tank's budget .

I'm looking at this same tank. My only hesitation is that I assume we can't add vortechs on the back wall because of the long overflow.

Thanks for reading! Yes it has been fun to put this tank together..

Correct, if you did Vortechs you would either have to place them on the side or go with the innovative marine EXT model.

next up is adding more corals!!!

Really excited for my Newly acquired Square Anthias. The Square Anthias is my all-time favorite fish from when I was a teenager. I have gotten my 1st on in high school and kept him in a 27 gallon tank! I sure was young and inexperienced then. I was so excited to get the specimen as it was the right size and it looked great out of the LFS. The first day he was being chased around by the blotchy anthias. so he hid behind my gyre pump ever since. It’s been about two weeks now and he’s definitely eating mysis shrimp and venturing out further away from his hiding spot here are some pics!!!

Its been a couple of months since I last updated... I have battled Dinos and Cyano and have won for now. it was all triggered by me chasing numbers and trying to get my Phos down. long story short i over did it on the GFO and a Dino outbreak happened with the brown bubbly slime everywhere. to fight this I let my nutrients rise and didn't do a water change for a month. As the Dinos started receding I noticed the Cyano outbreak shortly there after. after letting it go for a couple of weeks I decided to use the old standby Chemiclean. it worked like a charm. Now back to enjoying the regularly scheduled program.

My APS Stand came with a shelf.. I know I wanted and need to use the shelf as the trigger systems platinum 34 sump is going to take up a lot of the real estate under the aquarium. I plan to use the shelf for power bricks fish food and testing kits. I also plan to put the dosers on the shelf as well so they are out of the way. In order to use the shelf for the hundred gallon INT I’m going to have to cut some space to fit the plumbingAs well as cut some slots for electronic cords.

Right now I use Black & Decker 20 V cordless tools however the kit I bought doesn’t have a jigsaw. So I guess it’s time to buy a jigsaw! Of course Amazon had what I need and the price for the jigsaw and battery was only $10 more than a jigsaw without the battery and charger. I think I could basically sell the extra battery and charger for 50 bucks and only pay zero for thejigsaw. The global supply chain mud still have issues.

Anyways here is the new shelf I created!!! I cut a 15 inch x 3.5 inch notch on the shelf under the plumbing and another 6.5 x 2.5 inch wiring access area on the right side of the shelf.
CA5C42A5-1863-45EC-BDD5-B6BBE1C6A4D2.jpeg B36397B1-A6A3-48E5-A6C4-E2F8A666ABA6.jpeg 81AEB9AA-11C8-478D-962A-2913FF1E232C.jpeg
Here are some picks of the finished product. A shout of thanks the innovative marine Facebook group for suggesting that I paint the exposed areas that I cut. The shelf looks like plywood however it is MDF. I was able to find some black spray paint to paint the exposed cut areas. I have to say it looks pretty good!

6F9E61EE-07A6-4E36-86C3-1089C809D31E.jpeg

To paint, I simply used a PVC cement applicator I had laying around and spray painted black paint into the spray paint cap and then just brushed the paint onto the shelf.

@wet_rocks_reef YES! i have same APS stand with the TS Triton ump and was trying to think of a way to still use the shelf - this is it!!! thanks for the idea!!

On May 31st I decided to do my leak test!

I decided to go with RODI water to fill the Aquarium. For the last week and a half I had about 5 inches of water sitting in the overflow covering the bulkheads To make sure they didn’t leak.

With that passing the test I started filling her up!! It only took about a day and a half to have enough water ready. It seems like the water pressure at my home is really good and that the 75 gallon per day filter is working as stated.
7E537652-A69D-4700-8DFF-1D3BF8FD9D51.jpeg
I just decided to do the bucket brigade to fill the aquarium (sometimes brute force is better than over engineering for a simple task + i needed the workout)
2C7206A6-327B-4FCB-B843-D743C6C71D3B.jpeg
Before getting water into the overflow I made sure my sump was ready to receive water, The main thing I did was set up my protein skimmer. And set up the auto filter roller. The filter roller was a little tedious to set up, but i am hopeful it work great when its turn it on and filtering the reef
12A4CD30-5E2B-4BE1-AC7F-A7607C238B74.jpeg
So far so good no leaks in the tank and I started filling it up or water was going into the overflow and down the drain into the sump...no leaks there as well.
F6955913-A077-4592-81A3-6A55EEA8550D.jpeg
As I started hearing water go down the drain and getting to the stump I was really excited! I checked all the drain 3EE414CE-B5BE-4D85-9090-4229ED7A3CD7.jpeg

plumbing and hurray no leaks!!!

I made sure to test all three of the drains and once the tank and sump was filled, I connect the M2 Vectra. With a reading of the M2 I am thinking I am going running this roughly at 50%

Here are my head pressure calculations

Vectra running at 50% is 1000 GPH
2 - 90 degree elbows =2 ft
2- 45 degree elbows = 1ft
Pump to return nosels = 4ft
10 inch horizontal distance = 1inch (will not include in calc)
3/4 return vs 1 inch return = 65% of Stated flow rate
BCA24B7B-D19C-46F3-9F57-9B175675CB1B.jpeg
So for 7ft of head pressure is 1400 GPH * 50% (power) 65% (3/4 return)= 455 GPH or 4.5 x turn over for my aquarium to sump. Should I run my return at a higher rate?

Is my logic correct here?

The Vectra was easy to setup, and members here suggested to Connect the vector pump to a flexible hose then to a PVC barb to reduce vibration. So I did that and he made it actually a lot easier to install. I was stressing out about connecting PVC to the ABS plastic on the Vectra so I’m glad I was able to avoid that.
0AAAE21E-E539-40E0-89E4-0EF4CDD2F005.png
After some minor adjustments on the drain valve and setting my Vectra to run at 50% I got everything tuned up everything is leak free and running silent!

@wet_rocks_reef i agree with your return pump math/logic - I also plan on 5* iso originally thinking of 10*; this is still highly debated but for me a good starting point; if I have to upgrade my pump so be it, lesson learned .
