No longer are you limited to using a fixed amount of power per color channel, the HD dynamically adjusts power available to each color, borrowing power from the colors you’re not utilizing. Giving you the most vivid spectrum your tank has ever seen and spectrums never before possible. The HD also includes built in Ai-Fi WiFi control of each light, eliminating the need for additional equipment or third party controllers.

Im on board for this one. Did my preorder and now just sit and wait. I was really happy to see a great light with wireless control built in. Now if they only included an install kit it would be complete!

Thank you for shopping with us! The built-in WiFi is a big selling point and likely has a lot of reefers now reconsidering their lighting plans. I am one of them. :D

Hi Smotz,

Unfortunately, we do not have that information so you will need to check with AI directly. The upgrade, if offered, will be though AI directly.

The HDs are not able to color match with regular Hydras???

Hi Vuqdao,

They have very similar LED chips and different layouts. It should be possible for them to look very similar but you will not be able to have them set at the same percentages and have them look the same.

Would a 26 be sufficient for a 60g cube With sps ?

Hi Hawain_Rob,

Yes, with the new HD feature, there should be plenty of power to cover a 2x2. You will want to elevate the fixture 10"-12" above the water level to get a good coverage.

For a 225 Gallon SPS Tank, 72"x24"x30" tank do you think 2 of the 52 HD's would be enough or do I still need to go with 3?

Hi Dominic,

With an SPS aquarium that size, you will still want 3.

One option is to start with two, then add the third when the tank starts to fill up with more sps, or when your sps starts to grow into colony sizes.

Wouldn't PAR be extremely low for sps with the light that high?

Elevating the fixture does reduce PAR: however, very few hobbyists operate their fixtures at 100% so you would simply need to increase the intensity by raising the percentage output. The best option is to hang the fixture so you can easily adjust the height to get the best coverage/intensity combination.

Looks like we only get 300-400 par when in the middle of the light spread, but have to be 12 in away from the light.

Seems this light is only good for very shallow tanks. Or, am I missing something?

PAR meters are great for measuring light spectrum between 450nm and 650mn. However, they will under measure light intensity in the blue spectrum and over measure light in the red spectrum. Two different lights both giving you PAR reading of 500 can have VERY different effects on a coral. For this reason, we have found that relying on our experience, and experience from fellow hobbyists, to be more useful than a reading from a meter.

In our experience, the Hydra 26 will provide sufficient light for a typical 2'x2'x2' aquarium housing SPS :)
