Is it an insult to ask a hobbyist seller or any vendor/LFS if they have any coral pests?

No. He cut off communication after I asked. I was already getting them for a great deal and I said as much. I wouldn't have asked for a discount as instead I would have passed on the purchase. I don't have the space for a setup to quarantine. The conversation never got to that point unfortunately.
Hopefully you can find another off same coral off someone else or maybe even another coral you like better,
Good luck and happy hunting finding your coral ^_^

It is always on the hobbyist to error on the side of caution so asking shouldn't offend anyone. It only gets more complicated over time as your display matures as the potential loss is amplified. Reefs do not happen over night so none of us want to loose that blood, sweat, and tears.

We, as hobbyist, all have our own levels of acceptable risk. Some ask, trust, and place. Others ask, trust, and isolation. Some go through a rigorous isolation, observation, and QT program. There is also nothing wrong with asking them if they have a aquabiomics report.

We have to move past the side hustle.

that is why people quarantine the coral before they add them to the system.

I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious in those photos, but what am I meant to be looking at? The damage along the edge of the lepto looks like it's been stung by another coral, at least on first glance, and is that a chalice below it that might have done the stinging?

I'm curious how people feel about this. I asked a hobbyist seller based off of a blurry photo if they have any kind acro pests because the blurry photo made it look like there was a possible bite mark. He was offended I would ask him that, sent me photos of his LPS (not sure why) and 2 SPS colony pics, told me that's the first time anyone has ever said that and he wasn't going to sell any more. I was a bit taken back. I made sure to mention the photo wasn't very clear and it was hard to really tell. I figured that would be a reasonable question to ask, but maybe I'm in the wrong. Is asking someone if they have coral pests akin to asking someone how much money they make?
Always ask before you buy. If you get a response like that, the seller is a goof. Source what you’re looking for from someone else

I dip all my corals in an iodine dip reef solution but no I don't think it's something you can't ask. I think everyone has a right to ask questions and communicate or not.
It's some people hard earned money and if your not buying what you want that your not gonna do it. Plain and simple.
Why I don't sell coral. Too many variables.

I'm glad he decided he wasn't going to sell anymore. I was actually messaged by another local reefer who said I could get a frag for free if I picked it up from him. I'll bring him $20 and maybe a zoa frag (if he wants it) as thanks. He's a believer that the Oregon tort should be shared as much in...Oregon as possible. Once mine grows out (hopefully), I'll pass on a piece to the next reefer.

A reasonable reefer who wanted to sell his stuff should not be offended if asked about pest (or unwanted animals) in his tank. However, some people can have such strange idea of "pest and unwanted animals" that we never know. Best to answer any question that is asked. If they feel offended, then they are such stuck up people that you don't want to deal with or else they have pest and wanted to get rid of (and make money out of it) the coral before it dies, neverminded that it will wipe out your tank in the process.
I would never consider bristle worms, feather duster, sponges, starfish... as pest or unwanted animals. They are just tank fauna. I wanted them in my tank. If you are one of these very misguided picky reefers, you got to ask about them specifically because the great majority of "us" don't think of these as pests.
