Hey Everyone, I picked up this Fathead from my lfs last night, popped him into quarantine and noticed these spots.

I am really bad at differentiating ich vs velvet was wondering if a pro could chime in here.

I don't run medicine in the QT since setting it up so I was wondering what treatments everyones a fan of? Ive heard copper can be a bit harsh, and want to avoid stressing the fish more if possible.

How is it's breathing? rapid/fast breathing? or regular?

Can you count the spots? or are there too many to count?

More pics, under bright white lights would help ID.

Looks like ich. Assuming tank is a quarantine. Best treatment will be coppersafe or even formalin which will take longer. Quick cure same.
Add oxygen via air stone. Any other occupants and are they showing dots?
Is fish still eating?
Lastly, with coppersafe, treat for full 30 days at 80 degrees monitoring Therapeutic level 2.25–2.5 with a reliable copper test kit- no api brand

Looks like ich. Lack of rapid breathing would confirm that.
I prefer coppersafe for these, but some people have found TTM has worked well (and this species is relatively easy to handle). Hyposalinity is an option I try to avoid with anthias.

Hello, Thank you for the response!

Airstone is already online and running! Just the one occupant.

I tried giving the fish pellets didnt seem interested, I will try frozen when I get back home.

Will grab a bottle of coppersafe. Do you advise I do frequent water changes, and should I utilize water from my main display tank, or mix a fresh batch of salt for the water changes?

Thank you again!

Its breathing fine, just kind of swimming there, goes and chills on the side of the tank and moves around again.

Theres a handful of them, I don't think theres a massive amount.

Ill snag a better photo when I am back home! Thank you for the help!

With water from main display possibly infected with ich cysts, I would use new water
Monitor ammonia level during treatment
