Is it normal for fish to sleep vertical near the top of the tank?

Not normal

dangit. I fed him twice today and he ate like normal. No changes to the tank or anything. After I saw this, I turned the lights on to see if he was stressed or breathing heavy (neither were the case) and he went down to his normal 'spot' and seemed fine. Ugh I really hope he's OK.

If he’s been in the tank for months, then does that, I have some concern.
If he’s relatively new, or you added anyone new, not concerned
This fish can be a challenge to get settled.

How do I tell if something is wrong w him besides this? I'm not seeing any signs of disease and he's been eating like normal. I have meds on hand but I'm not sure if I should do anything or even what to do..

My Pyramid Butterfly sleeps the same way just nose up. To any outside observer it might look concerning.

If you don't have enough hiding places, they will do that. All fish have a lateral line which senses their environment and a copperband normally "sleeps" in a cave where they feel secure.
Your fish feels the corner of the tank and is the best place in your tank for him to feel secure.

But it is not enough so he needs real hiding places where you can't see him. He is stressed.

He's eating and acting normal when the lights are on. I do wonder if I'm feeding him enough. Feeding mysis 2x/day. He puts it in his mouth then spits some of it out (probably the shell I've been told).

My CBB did that for the first week or two. I read they don’t sleep at night in the classic sense. Regardless it settled in and stopped doing it for the most part.
