Is it possible to do a sump for a biocube 16 gallon?

I have a ten gallon tank I could use.
I’m really wanting to do this?

what is the best way?
Hang on back overflow? Or should I drill my overflow?

has anyone done this?

help me figure out how!

I have an aio and was told not to. If something goes wrong with the intake/return you flood your house and everything dies. Scared me away, but if you think of something safe, I would do it!

I drilled on overflow in a 7 and 1/2 gallon nano tank and the sump is 4 gallons

I ran a 11g waterbox as a satellite to main system.
Used a hob with siphon, and return pump from sump.
It worked but I was always nervous about the siphon; they get air bubbles that don't clear if under flowed.
Plus you lose the display space where filter and pump usually go in the aio.
I recently bought a 20g acrylic and moved to that, easy drilling!

You can't drill tempered glass, it'll shatter.
For drilling you want untempered for sure.
Ok. Oh haha. I got things mixed up in my head! I emailed coralife to verify the glass. . .
I’ve seen the overflows you can add to a tank and will probably go that route.
Something like this maybe?

Not a pro by any means - I don't even have water in my first reef tank. But I do recall seeing something on R2R about someone getting the wrong info about whether glass was tempered from the tank manufacturer. They ended up with a shattered tank and regretted not doing the "sunglasses test". Check this out:

Another test is the flame test. If you observe the reflection of a lighter in a tempered glass window, you'll see 2 flames, vs 1 for standard glass.

Would this thing work instead of your standard overflow box?
Almost used it, but it says the return produces a wave effect at waters surface. Didn't understand that and drilling is pretty final

So the question I have is if you do this you don’t need a normal style overflow like the lopro external overflow box?

I don't know the geometry of your aio.
But I'd think the overflow must be in the middle, and the return, in my case, used the same outlet as the original. How can you use this effectively?
If you have a normal, non aio tank, then yes.

I know it says you can separate them.
I was thinking the overflow drain in the backside of the first chamber and then yes the return on one side of the tank.

Just buy a new reef ready tank and move things. Then sell the current tank. It'll be much easier, it'll be safer, and most likely, it'll be cheaper.
And you'll have more display volume,
