I found this picture of a croc island scoly growing a new one, but this one i notice the new polyp flesh attached to mother scoly.

You see how it buds off the main polyp though? This is clinging directly to the skeleton. Look for retracting into a ball when poked.

Yes that's what I was thinking too. Mine isn't connected to the main polyp at all.

Would be curious to see what others say. Not sure if scolys grow new heads cause wouldn’t it be a branching coral then? Just my thoughts, could be totally wrong. How do scolymias propagate in the wild anyway besides sexual reproduction?
no they do grow new heads.

They don't tend to send out new heads from the base it's more like a candycane where they develop a new mouth in the flesh and eventually split into individual polyps. I could be wrong but I don't think it matters what we think because whatever the answer is we need to be patient.

I recently got a scoly and saw a similar moving object in the side. It turned out to be a pest worm head in a hole.

Yes, it does look like scoly... so they can propagate like mushroom. I'm curious. Did you change any parameter in a tank, or gave stress?

No .. Aquarium is only 10 months old and now it has started to grow nice.. Apart from having elevated nutrients, its stable.

Small scoly is growing and eating on his own.
