Originally bought for a cichlid tank but changed mind halfway through set up
With that I don't have the accessibility to run a sump system as a bought a stand with shelves not an open area.
To get on with it,
Running for 5 days now
standard 55 gallon tank
Live rock around 40lbs
Sand for substrait
Filtration:
fluval 307 canister with bio balls and phosphate media
a top fin canister also rated for a 60 gal
a pre filter on my power head
Lighting:
Aquasky led 4ft
Aquatop slr36

Heat is good it holds 79 constant

I used instant ocean reef crystals for set up and have been doing water changes with instant ocean Original

I have acquired 6 frags for free and I'm hoping they make it through the cycle of start up
I did use quick start

Now my issue is my ammonia is up and down saw as high as 3.8 and after a 25% water change a 2nd dose of quick start and 24 hrs it's at about .5
Nitrate and nitrites are 0
Salinity 1.025
Ph is steady at 8.0

So with the attached pictures of coral can anyone tell me names and if they will recover from the ammonia poisoning

Corals should not be affected by ammonia like fish are.

Your tank has only been running for 5 days which is going to make keep coral much more difficult due to the tank immaturity. Right now everything is trying to find a balance. Having 0 nitrates (and probably 0 phosphates) will eventually kill them as both are needed for coral to survive.

first looks like an acan, second looks like favia?, third is a blasto, fourth is a hammer or frogspawn, fifth are zoa's or pally's, last one is frogspawn I think....

What of lights and flow do you have?

Are you using rodi water?

The parameters are spot on cause the tank is still sterile, your tank has not yet arrived at its real parameters.

Suggest that you read up more on canister use on a reef tank. Most, including me, suggest against it. They will hold and increase the nitrates, they will need to be cleaned very often to keep nitrates low, which becomes a pita, especially since you have 2 of them.

Even if the frags die, adding them was a good idea since they were free. They will bring bacteria to your tank from a mature tank.

Well moved the coral frags to a quarantine tank as the hammer was looking worst. Ammonia is still holding at the 1 range
Ph 8
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <5 not 0
Gave another dose of quick start after test
Will test again tomorrow night
Anything I can do to help the coral or just let them quarantine in clean water?

As for lighting I have the Aquasky set in the picture (mostly for the ramp up and down)
And the aquatop slr36 is on a timmer on at 10 and off at 6
Water flow is decent at the surface and gets more gentle towards the bottom but still moving

Nice tank. I wouldn’t even run a canister as bioballs are not needed with all that live rock and have you tested phosphates? No reason to use phosphate remover unless you need it. Zero phosphate is bad. You don’t want zero.

I just would not want to maintain two canisters.
