I think it is best to run it periodically and not all the time. In my experience with having a purple Tang for 7 years , when I ran carbon all the time he got HLLE disease. When I stopped the carbon , he healed right up.

On my fresh tanks I only run carbon if I'm having a issue of some type. Carbon has its place, just don't see it as a requirement for a healthy fresh tank. Not sure yet on the salt side, I'm plumbing in 2 reactors, one may get carbon will have to see.

I never use carbon. It does remove trace elements minor but it does and HLLE like others have stated. No UV or carbon and reefer 450 is crystal clear.

I don’t typically run carbon or filter socks. I’ll occasionally (biannually) polish the water with a 1 micron filter bag.

I use Ozone by no carbon. Without ozone carbon would be a must. I have just gotten too used to super clear water.

I have several leathers and 7 nems. I run carbon in a media bag that hangs it the bubble trap baffle area. Always have carbon in.

Not all tanks. I do run carbon in mixed reef due to toxins from softies. I will probably run carbon in an anemone tank I have planned.

what do you run on your fresh? We use carbon, bio media and a sponge.
