If you want the apex to controll it then yes should be pretty easy. I've considered doing this with my rollermat mini.

You'll need an optical sensor, and an apex fmm. For mounting the sensor you could get one with magnetic mount, or drill a hole in the side of the rollermat at the same level as the float switch.

For coding I would probably use something like this.
1.Fallback OFF
2.Set OFF
3.If Roller closed Then ON (name optical sensor on rollermat)
4.Defer 000:30 Then ON (sets a delay time to activate rollermat)
5.Defer 000:03 Then OFF (sets a delay to turn off rollermat) depending how fast it takes up the fleece roll.
6.When On > 01:00 Then OFF (stops from getting stuck on using up whole roll)
7.Min Time 030:00 Then OFF (not necessary just limits how often it will activate rollermat)

Just realized I didn't even mention that.

If it's easy to take the factory controller apart, easiest way would be to hard wire the motor to the power supply and controll the power supply from an apex power outlet.

Or you could jam the float switch in the up position so it's always activated, and the apex will just turn it on and off.
