My 8 gallon Nano reef is 2 months old. Cycled for one month no fish and now has been about 1 month with 2 fish in it. Is the green stuff on the rock and sand a good sign?

2 months out... I wouldn’t surprised if it’s Diatoms. Is it brown under white light or still green?

Huh. I would say it’s algae, but I wouldn’t expect it to grow on the sand like that at 2 months. Does it come off if you rub it gently?

It looks normal. I’ve never had it go bright green, but it’s referenced in other threads. As long as it doesn’t take over everything, you probably don’t need to worry.

So I’m on the right track? I though the alge being on the rock is a good thing.

Algae is a good thing and you’re on the right track. Typically you get some diatoms, which rub off really easily as the silicates from the rock are absorbed. Then you’ll start getting purple coralline algae when your tank is established.
