It's pretty small, obviously sitting on the back of an empty hermit shell.

Could well be. No point taking chances just take it out.

Yeah looks like it. I would remove the shell, but keep in mind it may be elsewhere too!

Yes, it appears to be. As mentioned before, remove the shell, but do so carefully as to not disturb it and stress it out otherwise you might get a lot more.
