Hi everyone.
This purplish stuff just appeared in my tank last week or so. It comes off with a brush but I assume I’d want to keep it?
Is it Coralline algae? Or something different.
It’s around my BTA too and he’s been acting odd since it came.
Thanks for the help

If it comes off with a brush, not coralline.
Maybe cyano.

Yea I think that’s right. Didn’t seem right when the brush took some off.
I’ll have to run some tests and get back. For now I think I’ll inject some microbacter7 into it

Just suck it out when doing water changes. Usually doesn't last long. Your tank is new so algae is just part of your life for a while.

I purposely left it last water change. I’ll definitely clean it out next change

Coraline would have to be taken off with a wire brush. You'll see it on your powerheads and glass. Even the stuff on the glass requires a razor. It's like scraping off mortar.

I’ll put this in the lesson learned folder.
About 2 weeks ago my skimmer started skimming almost clear water. I figured the waste water should be darker so I dialed the skimmer down (after 10 months of being at the same setting). Shortly after dialling it down the cyano showed up and nem retreated.
I’ve put the skimmer back to its original setting and it filled the bucket 5-6 times with clear water, but has since settled down.
