I'm thinking about setting up my 55 gallon next weekend and was wondering if 60 pounds sand and 50 pounds dry rock sounds pretty good. Let me know I'll keep updating once I start setting up

Also I found someone that is selling a sump with pump and the overflow box on craigslist for $175. Should I get it or does it sound like something is wrong with it because the price is so low?

From your picture it is hard to tell the actual condition of the sump ( cracks, leaks, etc. ). I've never used an overflow box but have heard several horror stories of them failing to regain siphon after power loss. Did you not want to drill your 55g?

I wanted to drill the tank but after asking a few pet shops doing research and doing the polarized lens test I found out the glass is tempered so I can't drill.

Sounds like a good deal. It's worth taking a look. I always sell stuff cheap on CL to get rid of it fast.

As to the overflow boxes, I have seen people use an aqua lifter to maintain and reestablish siphons.

I wasn't able to test the back due to it already being painted (parents got it off of craigslist along with a stand for me for Christmas) but all the other sides were. For the time being I'll be using a hob filter only running carbon once I get it up and running
