I really don't even know how I "bottomed out". I always thought I've slightly overfed so I thought that would help keep the tank slightly dirty.

Is it possible using chem pure with the filter floss pulled out too much?
I believe so. I added Chemipure to a fairly new tank when I was starting out (because a friend had told me that you HAVE to have 0 phosphates ) and I had dinos within 10 days

ChemiPure does have a GFO or another binder in it yes.

Thanks, I think I'll be done with these devil bags now.

I appreciate all the feedback, hopefully I can get this cleared up and back on track soon.
