This 20gal tank is just shy of three months and levels are stable, the hammer was doing well until this growth started. Should I be worried?

Wow, that looks different, most sponges are good, but this looks a little odd.
Maybe Reef Squad can help..........following

Good stuff. Filter feeder. They love the dark places in a tank, sump, overflow, etc. Their population will rise and fall as conditions allow. It's a sign of a healthy tank.

Thank you! Should I leave it alone? It seems very easy to baster or rub off but, I didn’t want it to disturb it without knowing if there would be spreading consequences I was also contemplating taking it out and cleaning it.

Personally I've had some growing on my torch and monti, and they do fluctuate with time and available food. They haven't tried to grow over anything (so far), so I'm leaving them for now!

I see you mentioned your hammer stopped doing well when the growth started. My sponge growth hasn't impacted the coral, but it is possible. Has anything else occurred in your tank or troublesome water parameters?

It just hasn’t bloomed as well as it used to, but I also did move it so, that could be why too. I feel better about it now that I joined the r2r tonight. Google had me in a panic
