Meanwhile…

got a 90° angled usb A adaptor for Aquabus cable on the EB8. It feels like there’s too much push from the wall on the wire so this adaptor should fix that.

Also got this switched extension for the Avast Kalk Stirrer:

So now the next headache is setting up APEX.

……

After 2 hours trying to get this new APEX 2016 to stop dropping wifi connectivity I’ve decided that the APEX unit does not like my mesh Wi-Fi network’s dual 5Ghz / 2.4Ghz system. And my DECO mesh system does not seem to let me separate the bands. So I’ve connected a wired Ethernet for the time being and magically the head unit is not losing Wi-Fi and connecting to fusion without issue.

*sigh*

To do’s:

• setup ATO
• setup pH probes in tank and in kalk reactor
• set up switches
• set up kalk reactor
• set up DOS
• fix wire tangles and rats nest so electronic door closes properly
• ensure vortech MP40s adhere to the glass correctly —worried at stronger flow the wet and dry sides lose their magnetic coupling
• set lights schedule

Then…
Plan the aquarium transfer.

Tank is cooking.

In the meantime, I'm going to do something I think will help me keep up with husbandry:

I'm going to use the valve that's meant for a chiller to run a hose to a port that I'm going to install through my wall to the exterior of the house -- which will then push water through my yard's drain system. Just thinking....

Taking advantage of the Chiller Valve in the Cade 1500 s2/P Dosing Cabinet

There are a few things that are as annoying to me than carrying dirty water to the toilet during a water change. I’m not set up for an AWC system just yet but I was thinking, “It would be great if I could just use that Chiller Valve to dump water directly into the yard drains. I reached out to a local handy guy and described what I was thinking.

Here we are. Took him literally only an hour to get it measured and nicely laid out with a slight slope.

After testing it drains 5 gallons in about 20 seconds without a hitch – no messes and no splashes.

Seeding

Seeded tank with current tank's years old media. Did a good rinse in it's original water. A nice mix of Siporax, Bio-Home Ultimate and Marine Pure.

Before bedtime:

Added @AlgaeBarn NitroCycle to get something for the seeded media to feed on. As well as 59mls of FritzZyme Turbo Start 900 to start ensuring a good colony of nitrifiers are seeded.

Not a fan of the “earthy” smell of Turbo Start though. Definitely smells just like it did many years ago. **gag**

Refugium plumbed in and running:

Got an optical sensor there to catch for water height.

AB167AA3-CE1C-41F5-95B9-746C12CC2B92.jpeg

and pushing the Vectra to 25% to get the system quiet.

Getting the water height to be right at the emergency overflow seems to work nicely:

Looking at the manifold I have one open valve still.

i have the skimmer off to get bacteria seeded. I’ll need to readjust once it’s back on.

Mounted the apex display here so I can calibrate the DOS.

The form factor of the DOS is cool. I like the easy big priming buttons but the design of the casing sure does make it seem loud compared to the Kamoer and the Versa.

So got my Calcium and Alkalinity almost to point. As well as the Kalk reactor going. Man, I’m no good with wire management. Still don’t have enough space.

And of course, as the fates will have it, my 7 year old Yellow tang has a an eye infection so It’s all about getting a QT set up the rest of the day. Then fail to catch him this evening…

I’m having the worst luck with shipped items…

After getting a couple of new MP60s, nothing them in tank and turning on to connect to Mobius one of them shoots off the glass landing onto the sand. I thought it just got loose…but nope. The propeller plate that separates the propeller assembly and holds the magnet the internal casing have TWO broken clips!

i can’t believe it. Literally received today and just opened.

how do these even break…also, how are 3 little tabs supposed to be sufficient to hold this magnet?!

ugh…

Regarding the damaged MP60:

I purchased it during the 25% off sale last week. I contacted saltwateraquarium.com, where these were purchased, and their support replied early this morning. I’ve always had good customer support from them. They suggested that Ecotech likes to handle these things otherwise they’ll send out a replacement. So that’s what I’ve done, just waiting for a response from Ecotech now.

Always something with reef keeping.

Ecotech Marine has been very responsive and are sending me a new wetside assembly via express shipping. So I'm happy about that.

I had good luck with their customer support where they sent me a new wet side for my MP40. I also had them extend the cable for my MP10 which turned out well.
