So here we go...
I've been lurking for the past six weeks or so to gather information to make a decision as to if I wanted to take the plunge so to speak and invest in a SW tank and all that entails. In the past I've kept African cichlids but got out about 10 years ago.
Sorry I don't have the step by step photos- I've had this tank up for eight days and it's currently cycling with MicroBacter 7
Tank: Waterbox Cube 20
Stand: Waterbox
Filtration: InTank chamber one media basket currently running filter floss in the first compartment. Compartment two is currently empty and compartment three has two Xport 1.5" Bio Blocks. I also have some ChemiPure Blue Nano on standby.
Second AIO chamber has the carbon that came with the system along with the factory sponge. I also have a couple of pieces filter floss that I'm attempting to seed for my 10 QT (thanks to all the great minds in the QT threads!).
The return chamber has the stock return pump.
AI Nero3
Lighting: AI Prime 16HD
Heating: Inkbird itc-308 and BRS 100 watt titanium heater in chamber two.
ATO: XP Aqua Duetto
Substrate: 20 pounds of CaribSea Special Grade Live Sand
Aquascape: About 12 pounds of Marco Rocks dry rock
Salinity and temperature: 1.024 (this is premixed Instant Ocean Reef Crystals from my LFS) 78.1 to 78.3 once the heater got up to temperature (set at 78)
Also attached it a shot of my QT setup with the rest of the stuff coming later today (50 watt heater, sponge filter and air pump/line, a second thermometer and two ammonia alert badges. There is an AquaClear 20 HOB running now.
As far as QT goes I couldn't find any Copper Power close to me locally so I have some landing midweek next week from BRS. I did pick up some API General Cure along with some Seachem Focus and a Hanna HI702 and Hanna salinity checker.
I also have enough of this and that - syphon tubes, nets and so forth to keep my DT and QT from cross contaminating provided I'm not lazy
Thanks for all the information I've collected here. I look forward to taking this process slow and smart. I have a lot to learn and am eager to do so!
Have a great day- Isaac
