It’s going to be in the single digits near me this week. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me?

So it’s going to be in the teens and single digits. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me? It’s not really going to warm up that much anytime soon. Do I just request the seller add extra heat packs and insulation and ensure someone is home for the delivery? Or do I not order fish right now online and just go in person? The fish I want are only online. I guess the other thing I wonder about the argument is fish stores still get fish no matter the weather granted I know some are air shipped.

could they delay the shipping until it warms up a bit? i guess for the fishes sake, i would wait. :smiling-face:
I was told it would have to be cancelled and refunded which sucks. Part of my issue is it’s a fish not commonly seen in the hobby and they couldn’t hold it.

ah bummer. thats too bad.
But that being said I know I can get another it’s a dusky wrasse. But as mentioned how are other sellers shipping fish? For instance many places still are despite weather. Maybe the difference is it’s being shipped to businesses so the other option could be is I have it shipped to an access point that was it isn’t sitting in a cold truck for long.

I am pretty sure any LFS has to have their stuff shipped to an airport pickup. They ship late and pick up early so nothing is stuck outside or in the cold all day

it routinely gets that cold here and it doesn’t stop shipments. Cold weather is much easier to deal with than hot weather. Heat packs work way better than cooling packs. Just my opinion.

USPS? Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever trust that they will care about your live order or go extra to ensure it's delivered and handled properly in extreme climate.

There is a threshold where things like heat packs and insulation lose their effectiveness. I'd definitely wait.

Oh USPS doesn’t usually ship live animals and vendors don’t usually use them. Do you mean UPS?

Nope, received plenty with USPS then had a string of bad luck where USPS just simply turned to crap about 4 years ago and have not used them since. I usually turn vendors away if they don't have UPS or Fedex option and really only trust UPS these days. Unless USPS changed recently but one of my go to Florida LFS wanted to ship USPS last year in which I decided to drive 14 hours and pickup myself instead (that's how little I trust them).

Looks like they still do:

I think I have a solution. I’m going to visit Andrew Sandler/Polo Reef this weekend and I’m sure I can get one at one of the many fish stores/vendors near him. I’m very excited about this and can’t wait. It’ll be my first time seeing his tank in person. The tank and mansion is something we all wish we had with the money none of us except for Andrew have haha. I will definitely be posting photos I’m really excited.

That’s interesting because I have never heard of a single vendor shipping live fish through USPS. The only one that uses USPS is the vendor I get macros from and they would get delayed/not be rush shipped and die.
