I will have to take pics when I get home in a few hours.

I do think the mag will work with the tunze just because they mag is made for much stronger class and is pretty small (it appears) so I think the curve will not have much impact. But it might....

This is so cool. Just read entire thread. I have 2 6g picos and about to start a 5g up. I also found a cool jar for a 1g Pico.

Now only question with my jar is it has a cork top. So all light will be from side. Should I coat the cork or will it hold for evap? Just not sure on that one. I got it cuz I figure easy to drill if needed.

I have been eagerly waiting to start since sugery in Sept.

Keep the pics coming love the sps you have.

I'm asking because I don't know, but don't you have to have some sort of air exchange? A totally sealed cap will prevent evaporation, but won't you run out of oxygen?

I take it off every few days for general work, but there is a decent air cushion at the top. Lights on coral, like plants, produce oxygen and at night need oxygen. With surface flow they seem to balance things out.

Few pics of clam. He is still closed up a bit after the terrible trip.

Not sure but I would think the cork would absorb water so I would try and seal it.

Do you think that the magnet will work on a curved surface?
Confirmed. My 6040 arrived today along with some other items. I just tested it on the same jar as yours, except mine has a spigot, and the magnet on the Tunze works perfectly to hold the pump in place. It is a bit larger than I thought it would be, but not too bad I guess. Waiting for 2 more orders to arrive and then I will have the needed parts.

I would have a pump inside too for flow. I considered just a strong airline instead of pump, but I do not think that will be enough flow and could cause issues of too much air unless I have a outhole and that defeats the idea of a sealed jar. Thanks for input.

Are you going to put up any pics of the pump in the jar? That would be really helpful!

Clam didn't make it, the shipping delay is just too much on a little clam. Being Divers Den they are going to reship another one which is nice. Fingers crossed.

Wow I just noticed how terrible those pictures look.... They seem fine on my phone before they are magnified on the computer screen! Dang.

Oh awesome thank you. Looks like it’s a bit deeper than the sicce but might be shorter or close enough. That tunze is crazy flow for how small they are!

Ya the flow is impressive on paper. I expect it will be quite a lot when it is in the jar. Since the 6020 is 1/3 the price, but is non-adjustable for flow (660 GPH), I plan on testing the 6040 at 100%, with the flow deflector pointed at the jar wall to see if the flow can be tamed enough to allow 6020's to be used. Probably be too much though. The normal "high" range of flow for an SPS tank is 75 - 90x, and 660/2 = 330x! Will try anyway just to see if the 6020 is a possible candidate for future jars.

I bet that will be crazy. Even the sicce is pushing what I want for flow, I don’t think the jar could handle more, the tunze I think would be neat for the mag mount and even more, pulse mode. I think the water would do great in the jar with pulses and it’s nice you can actually have the impeller totally stop on pulse mode, unlike most other pumps, as it would be too much for jar of it didn’t stop when pulsing I think.

Some more less terrible pics. So LA accidently shipped me two clams, talk about a happy mistake, although one of them is in quite poor condition and would be surprised if it survives long, which one clam in a pico is crazy enough! There are few algae issues, but I am trying to keep on those during the WC time. Always cool how clams mantle changes colors depending on the angle..

Gorgeous clams... hopefully those guys make it. Are you still planning on 100% water changes with the clams in the jar? Any worry about air bubbles?

Yep I am still going to do 100% w/c, air bubbles shouldn’t be a problem, the whole clam air thing seems to be a myth idk how it got started as most species of clams are exposed on the occasional low tide and they are plenty capable of expelling air and accidental ingested detritus by coughing.

I am skeptical about the clams, especially after the rough trip, but we shall see! I figured if clam dies under 1-2 weeks they were in bad shape to start and from shipping. If over that then lights too weak or parasites (unless of course you see a fish just wreck it!)

Ive never experienced the air bubble thing with mine, so I always attributed it to smaller clams for some reason. Ive taken my derasa out of the tank on a few occasions to scrub tube snails and bubble algae off of it without issue as well. Should be an interesting expereiment if they live - the pair of them might wreak havoc on the alk/cal levels should they really get going...

I added a Tunze 6020 to my freshwater 25g cube and let me say it is a crazy amount of water movement. I had to pull it out as there was nowhere I could put t that it didn't cause too much movement. I currently run a koralia nano 425 and I wanted to increase the flow. I had a mp10 in the tank and on 3-4 lagoon mode it had less whirlpool effect. I think the 6040 would be a good choice due to being able to scale it down
