LFS had this used Octopus skimmer for 65 dollars. Cleaned the unit up in white vinegar and installed momentary ago.
My Coralife 65G skimmer pump was failing (7 months) and I couldn't find replacement parts so this savings was much welcomed.

Used Gimp to auto correct color of above post images:

Photos from Android processed through Gimp/Colors/Auto/Equalize.
Might be nice if Reef2Reef forum software offered upload/photo/processing and/or filters.
Enjoy

After having moved from CA to ID I took near half a decade off from hosting a Reef tank. I also haven't worked with wood for near two decades. Some basic hand tools, lumber, pallets, hardware ordered from Amazon, and a couple of weeks later the top of the tank awaits the stain to dry and a polyurethane coat. At the moment the 66 rimless tanks sits on the floor cycling. Three weeks into cycling having used dead sand, live sand, dead rock, and purple as well as pink algae strains. I'll need to drain the tank either tonight or tomorrow, bring the stand in from the garage, lift the stand into place then refill.

Here's my DIY stand project using old pallets to skin the 4x4 and 2x4 framework. Yes I should have used a throw cloth for the floors. I plan to clean the over splatter tonight. The front doors are sliding barn style:

Lights are temporary and will remain as spares on the parts shelf. I also plan to add a sump and unclutter the rimless tank's clean appeal.

what lights are you running now? I had those same lights on an older tank. Super cheap on amazon and the spectrum wasn't horrible.

Hi afrokobe,

I am currently using Hipagero 100 watt LEDs: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/new-hipargero-100-watt-light-thoughts.923958/

Lights in photo quoted were by Relassy but some LEDs went out or shorted because of salt spray. Relassy were temporary solution and now used during winter months to help my indoor trees and plants when needed.

I really like my Hipargero lights. Not only inexpensive but Amazon offered a very reasonable extended warranty for 3yrs. Haven't had any problems after setup running two as Master/Slave configuration.

Enjoy and happy reef keeping.

Added Rose Bubble Anemone (near center of first picture). Anemone hasn't inflated yet after transportation.
Second picture SPS branch of some sort. Was informed easy or beginner level SPS and grows rapidly:

Natural sunlight shining through tank (yellowing).
Rose bubble anemone inflating three hours after transplant (first picture near center).
Second picture: pair of clowns and Cerith snails (black shells seen on sand and rocks) emerging from sand bed.

I love the homemade stand! I might have to look into adding a UV Sterilizer like you did. Are you still running that? How has it been working out for you? What are all the white stringy things all over your base rock though?

Thanks, and yes.
UV Sterilizer by Coralife Twist 6x 18 watt model.
Last few days my sterilizer runs for 12 hours and off for 12 hours by electrical outlet timer.
Noticing an increase in algae so reset to run 24 hours.
White stringy things are tube/fan worms (population decreased throughout last few months.)
Enjoy

My first budget mixing station :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: Cleaned storage container from garage and no longer used Coralife skimmer pump for mix/aeration. I haven't exchanged more than 1-5 gallons of water at once other than for canister filter maintenance to date (eight months). Tomorrow Instant Ocean Reef Crystals scheduled for delivery. Can't wait to empty IO Reef Crystals to free up a recyclable bucket (5 gallon buckets are priced outrageously.) I've been using salt and never before crystals for eight months. I hope to replace 10-15 gallons tomorrow.
