We need to recruit some of the guys that have left the hobby from back in the day when we mostly used scientific names lol

Is it against the rules to cross post this to the SPS forum?

By all means! Any contributions are welcome. And thanks.

How about all the guys that like to start threads about how much they can’t stand “all the names”. Now is your time to shine dudes. In a lot of ways I am doing this for you!!

The struggle is real!
I defeated Dino's and my new tank is currently dealing with algae issue's. Sounds like a problem, BUT, when dealing with Dino's, its not. My only struggle will be...DO...I order 1 or 2 $1000 Battleboxes, LOL!!!

I really hope this idea catches on! I'm kinda sick of looking at Georgie turdbury acro type things without knowing what it really is. I've always wondered why sellers don't do this or even give a little description of what type it is.

You guys are doing good! I really appreciate all the posts so far and I think that we have locked in a few for sure so far.

So, here's perhaps one of the best examples I can give you guys of why this is so very difficult though. I've experienced many acros that will grow differently in captivity than they do in the wild, and that makes any sort of pic matching almost impossible.

Here is the original wild colony of my Angelica. Clearly nothing like the captive-grown version structurally. If I had to guess I'd call it a rosaria.

Agreed, they can change drastically under different flow patterns, lighting etc. Nothing seems to grow quite like it does in the ocean, in our tanks.

A few more maybes

Dude nice work man this is what I'm talking about. these are really good! I think I owe you at least 7 hits worth for this post! The only one I'm not so certain about is the cloud city. I've seen lots of horrida and this piece just doesn't have the same kind of longer thicker branch structure that I'd associate with a typical horrida.

otherwise, outstanding man. thank you!

After some more coral "edumacation" I learned how far off with these guesses I was lol! I guess that is part of the game. I would like a redo at these particular ones though to try and redeem myself as a future coral identifyer

About 80 percent sure this is a natsuta
And this one is most likely A. Multiacuta. Google search doesn't turn up much but here are some examples http://blog.coralwonders.com/en/acropora-multiacuta/

If you find anything contrary I want to learn! coral taxonomy is highly interesting to me

So what do you guys think? Anyone out there prefer shopping or browsing in "no glizt" over the classic version?
