Way late on posting a pick if my sump. Anyways here it is. Nothing too fancy. Oversized skimmer for the system.? Works great and pulls a nice dark skimmate. Filter media cup with floss and filter pads. A bag of carbon. Need more rock in there. And a pod hotel that I’m testing out. Two returns. One of the return lines runs through my 25 watt emperor UV. And that’s it. Pretty simple.

They work well for gathering pods in a easy place to move them from sump to display. It’s just corrugated plastic sheets held together with a molded plastic case. Could be done by ones self for cheap I think. Anyways, my plan to supplement enough pods for a mandarin, eventually, is to have seven pod hotels in the sump. The rest would be DIY versions. Then I plan on starting to harvest phyto and pods with the Poseidon pod and phyto kit. https://poseidonreefsystems.com/
The idea is to supplement weekly or bi weekly harvests of pods and phyto to the entire system. And to build a weeks worth population of pods in a hotel, and nightly i would place the full hotel into my display. There is also a baby brineshrinp feeder, designed by Paul b, I might try as well.

I've looked into the exact same things to be able to have enough pods to sustain a mandarin. The baby brineshrimp feeder seems to work very well, I only think it would be hard for other people to take care of my tank while I'm away. The pod hotels are very easy, I think you can also just shake them empty in the display (at night) to put it back in the sump after. I also started a refugium partially for this reason. It's crawling in pods now, but I don't think they really make it into the display. The pod hotels seems to be great for making that possible.

Small update. Not much has changed. Still getting a little nuisance algae. I mentioned before but I have been dosing aminos and some polyp labs polyp booster. I dose a little less than 1 ml of each each week. Which seems ludicrously small, but it really colored up my corals. I have also been dosing 5 mls if h202 in the morning and night which really helps with keeping my cyano in check. I’m thinking about trying out a sochting oxydator to regulate the h202 dosing. I have been also dosing a very small amount of vibrant. I have used it before, and don’t like to use it, but it dose help to keep the hair algae from taking over.
One thing I’m very happy about is how well my rainbow bubble tip anemone seems to be doing. Had yet to peak the interest of either of my clown fish, but it is really colorful and gaining good size.
Now done pictures.

Looks amazing buddy! Nice work. I'm using that polyp labs and have been dosing aminos as well. Guess what, I got a bit of cyano for the effort as well lol. Anthony was over the other day and mentioned he got his oxidator up and running a day or so ago. It sounded really interesting. I asked if he would keep the results posted. Are you manually dosing the peroxide?

Yeah I’m doing a teaspoon (5ml) morning and night. Of course my reliability waxes and wanes as you could expect. When I forget I can visibly see an increase in cyano and the red brown dusting in my sand bed. When I’m really on point for an extended time it’s really clean.

Monthly update. All is well in 40 breeder to freedom world! I have been having a diatom out break, but nothing terrible. It is about a year since I installed my new 5 stage BRS drinking water and RODI unit. So I’m going to replace filters and see if that helps. Of course I just made 30 gallons of water last week so it will be month or two before I know if it helps at all. I‘lol be honest and admit I have not been testing my po4 or nitrates much …… I hate those tests. I have the Hanna ULR po4 tester, but I have always found that test to be a P.I.M.A. Anyways I should suck it up and do some more testing just to make sure things are legit.

I just successfully ( knock on wood) QT’d a chromis using @Humblefish ’s hybrid tank transfer method (in ghetto 5 gallon bucket style). I’m pretty pleased with how easy it was. And feel confident about the method. H202 for velvet, API general cure for flukes, and the TTM for the ich. Surprisingly easy. Hopefully effective.
have the little dude in a 20 gallon observation tank for a few weeks.
Other than that tank is cruising, Having noticeable coral growth and great color. I’m still a half year to a year until the tank will be out of the “ ugly stage.” But I think I mitigated the most of it.
Alright you impatient jerks…. Pics below

first is my new chromis and it’s unfortunate bucket home. He was a great bucket fish!

Tank looks great! I like the ghetto bucket style TTM, it was probably a lot easier to clean.
It really was! Biggest problem with a bucket fish is you only see the top. Was hard to tell how the fish was looking. Fact it was impossible. Bucket transfer method works, but I’ll be investing in 5 gallon tanks from now on.

Monthly 40b update. I’ve been testing phosphate and nitrate weekly and switching from weekly water changes to biweekly. So far so good. I’m hoping it will continue to work. The blue chromis is doing great. I acquired a head of dragon’s soul torch from a local reef buddy. Thanks again @Anthony Scholfield
I also just added a second ice cap 1k gyre. I put it vertical in the back right corner. The top propeller I have pointed towards the front and the bottom propeller is pointed behind the rocks. I think it’s adding a lot of good indirect flow.
And some pics….
