Wait why are you removing and cleaning sand?No days off!
Today is another big cleaning. I won’t be taking rocks out and cleaning them, but I will be cleaning the sand super well. Any sand I vacuum out, will be cleaned and then added back into the tank.
After cleaning, it’s feeding time!

Here is the tank now:
Not a lot of cyano... Now, it’s just that ugly brown stuff
That came out wrong.Wait why are you removing and cleaning sand?
James the brown you may now be seeing might be diatoms due to low phosphates from your water changes. It's a balancing act. I would say that if you want to clean up the sand try passing the water through a low micron sock and putting it back in the tank instead of changing it out.Forgot that my substrate was actually white:
Also did a little 5g water change along with the vacuuming.
Oh, what’s a micron sock? Never heard of it before.James the brown you may now be seeing might be diatoms due to low phosphates from your water changes. It's a balancing act. I would say that if you want to clean up the sand try passing the water through a low micron sock and putting it back in the tank instead of changing it out.
Of course I know you have test kits coming so thus is only conjecture until you can test your levels.
Everything has opened up well for you. Keep things simple and stable and you will really enjoy these peices.
