When do we find out who won?
Probably some time after Jan 31.
That's when the deadline is to submit pictures.

Then, the mod team will select up to 15 finalists and a poll will be created and posted in the Reef Discussion Forum. The Grand Prize Winner will be determined by Reef2Reef member voting.

I have one that has done the same thing. Been that way for about 6 months. What is it and does it go away? Bounce Favia...
