He will be fine especially if he likes the aquarium as much as you do,, my daughter helps with so much with tank husbandry and feeding time plus is always monitoring the salinity and temp,, she loves all the seahorses

Beautiful systems! Very interested in seeing your planted systems as well if that is allowed here. ;-) (I'm sure your son will do a great job!)
Thanks for taking an interest in my other side! And to my son's success.LOL!
If I get a chance next time, I'd like to introduce the aquatic plant tank in detail.(I'm on a business trip right now.)

Does the multi bar angel nip at the corals? What are your parameters, specifically phosphate, and nitrate? Thx
Some of the multibar angels nip to at the LPS.I plan to move the coral to a separate tank if it eats coral. It's okay for now, though.
I'll try to write more about the nitrates and phosphates when I get back from my business trip, as I've had other people request reports on them!

Did I read you're a beginner?! If you're a beginner then I must be a pre-neo-beginner. I can only hope to achieve what you have done in my dreams! Totally awesome!!
Thank you! I'm a real beginner! Seawater. I've had a freshwater aquarium for a long time. Then in January of this year, I started a saltwater coral tank, which has been a dream of mine for a long time.I think it's a really great hobby.

Takaki-san!!! Arigato Gozaimasu for sharing your tanks!!!!!! I love the nature aquarium approach to your reef tank. On a side note, I was stationed at the transmitter site in Totsuka for 3 years, (Beigun Kaigun Tsushintai-desu), and loved being in Japan.

These guys are very finicky eaters, maybe one of the worst fish to get to eat. Best bet is to try masstick

I've heard it's a difficult fish to get people to eat.I want to make it live well for a long time somehow, so I'll do my best.

The colors and arrangements are very beautiful. I am more a fan of live rock, straight from the ocean, and all the extras and surprises with that method...... but yours... is like a live painting.... BEAUTIFUL!!
There's definitely a rich biota and unexpected surprises to be had in live rock!
But I'm still a beginner, so I feared uninvited guests.

First of all, beautiful tanks!!!! Wow, I love the aesthetic. And you're making me "homesick" for Japan. It's been 5 years since my last visit.

The overflow is really a space saving model, I like it very much. May have to see if I can find one to install on a system. I don't need one, but it looks like a good idea!

Great choice on the multibar angel. This is a species I'd really like to add to my reef. I think it will do very well in there with lots of space and rock. My biggest concern is QT. They do not do well in QT and I really don't want to put one in my system without QT. Dilemma!
Thanks for the compliment, I'm sure triple flow overflow pipes are hard to find in the US, but good luck with that.
What do you mean by QT?I've never heard of this before, so it would be helpful to know.Is it a fish?

I lived in Japan for a while, many years ago and had the chance to go to those southern islands in Japan, especially around Ishigakijima and Miyakojima. It was breathtaking. I can't wait to go back.
Isn't Ishigaki Island and Miyako Island amazing!I am proud of the fact that we have wonderful coral reefs in Japan, and I want to pass them on to our children's generation.

Your tanks are beautiful. Very nicely designed!

I'm also intrigued by this overflow design. It looks like a lot of water would drain from the upper tank if the return pump stops running?

Thank you.
This flow pipe is a triple pipe, and the drainage flows from the top of the second pipe to the sump.If the water level overflows, it will flow, so you don't have to worry if the return pump stops working.

Thank you. Your Japanese is amazing! Indeed, my reef tank may be heavily influenced by the Nature Aquarium.I've been doing it for a long time.

When I got into reef aquariums, real, live rock was the only option. The fad of "cooking" the rock, so it is bare, white rock was still 15 years away. It was so exciting to turn on a red light and look at the tank late at night. There was life we didnt know existed.

I was fluent in Japanese due to no one off the base speaking English. Plus, it got me a better reception by the people and I enjoyed surprising people. Gambade-masu on you reefing and Welcome to Reef2Reef!!

I'll write about phosphate and nitrate control.
I'm only six months into my coral tank, though, so I don't know what the big deal is.

Nitrate: 0ppm
Phosphate: 0.02ppm

I use a protein skimmer (REFER skimmer 600) and refugium for nutrient control.Bacteria are dosed regularly, but I don't administer any carbon sources as nutrients are almost undetectable. Also, I don't think there is any denitrification action in my tank as I don't use much sand and I don't use live rock either.I also think the low amount of food because of the low number of fish is partly responsible for the low nutrient environment.

I think the reason for low nutrient levels is the high effect of refugeum in my environment.I use Chaetomorpha crassa for my refugeum. The refugeum is roughly about 10% of the water volume. The lights are on 24 hours a day.And there is a lot of seaweed growing in the refugeum. Also, there are a lot of microbes growing in the refugeum, so I think it's a great snack for the fish.

Refugeum tank
Tank: 24g+48g=72g
Sump: 12g
Rifidium: 8g (approx. 10%)

Here's another hobby of mine, the aquatic plant tank. It's called a Nature quarium.

I don't know if I can talk about the aquatic aquarium at Reef 2 Reef, but I've been enjoying the nature aquarium for about 15 years now.
The Nature Aquarium is a style of aquatic plants aquarium started by a Japanese man, Mr. Amano, the founder of ADA, a Japanese aquarium company. He changed the layout of the aquarium from the flower beds in Europe, especially in the Netherlands. It is a genre of freshwater aquarium that reproduces the natural landscape in the aquarium by introducing the concept of Japanese garden, bonsai and wabi-sabi.It's a style that aquarists around the world are now obsessed with.

I have a long career in nature aquariums compared to reef tanks.I was inspired by the style Mr. Amano started and I copied many of his layouts.I was very sad when he passed away.

And my reef tank may be strongly influenced by nature aquariums. Even now that I am crazy about reef tank, I continue to maintain my nature aquarium tank as well.

If the Nature Aquarium philosophy and style can help R2R members in any way, that would be great. If there is anything you would like to know, please feel free to ask me anything.I'm new to coral aquariums but I'm sure I can answer anything about nature aquariums.
