You can use one of those 12v pumps like for ato and for cat drinking water for extra flow.

I had a 5 gal nano for 3 years on my desk here. Grew corals great.the blasto merletti were amazing.
No probs ever. Hob fuge , Aqua clear , a CF and rgbw cheapo leds. Ato is a must.
Spoiled kid. Good on him.

Spoiled kid makes straight A's and trades chores for perks. A friend got him the tank.

I think you will be fine with the pico.
For flow and filtration, I would go with the biggest HOB filter I could fit on the back of the tank. Fluval makes some nice ones.
The Fluval light you picked should be good for softies and LPS but SPS will be a stretch at best.

Please keep us posted.

Had a 2 gallon setup for a little over a year had zoa's and lps. Easy tank never had a problem with it just did 1 gallon water change a week that was it. Missed it so much that I just picked up a 4 gallon waterbox all in one.

This is too funny. He has no idea he is getting this tank for Christmas. I helped Grandma with ideas...excitedly, last night he shows me this "sick" little tank that would be perfect for zoas...I could hardly keep myself from laughing. I had to keep the mom face and tell him we have too many tanks.

Now for the debate. Black sand or white sand?

I am gun shy after the turtle tank when it comes to Black sand but hold on for the post man before choosing colors,
but I will say black would be cool

With such a small volume, every 1/4” counts. I say go bare bottom and maximize space. Sounds like it will become mostly zoas anyway. Maybe 1/4” thick Starboard for a base.
