How have the MP40's on the back wall worked out for you? I like the idea of pumps on the back wall, but thinking the overall flow might work better on the sides of the tank. Working on setting up a reefer xl 300, very similar to your tank
@Downfall I have both MP40’s on the back wall and set both for a low to medium flow setting based on the Mophius app. I haven’t experimented any further with the app and different flow rates and flow modes. But the current default program varies the flow rates throughout the day and keeps the sand at bay. Any higher flow rates causes the sand to shift.

@Pakman2 not sure if I told you or someone else. I couldn’t make any sense of the InkBird Wi-Fi app. So I’m going with a non Wi-Fi InkBird heater controller. The Wi-Fi model gives you an alarm if your temperature stays at the same degrees for awhile. The purpose is because InkBird thinks the temperature should vary between your low and high settings without stopping on any certain degree for awhile. I thought that didn’t make any sense. It seems like there’s a lot of bugs in the system as well.
@powers2001 The Ink Bird controller wasn’t the problem. It was my router as it wouldn’t let the controller connect to the router. There is another option on the controller to get a wifi connection which worked for me. As far as temps go, having two heaters hooked up, the water temperature is extremely consistent. Minimal fluctuation. So far so good!

@Downfall I’ve played around with the Mobius app with the 2 MP40’s on the back wall. I had to turn both power heads down to 40%. Anything more than that and the sand gets blown away on the two front corners. I’m going to leave it as is and see how the corals react once they come out of QT and into the DT.

I ordered a tank screen cover from Kraken Reef. Cover is made with a CNC machine designed to cut the plastic. It was delivered Wednesday and looks great. No need to worry about any fish jumping out.

According to Kessil….they recommend to set the height of the lights between 6.5” to 8” from the water surface. So I set the lights currently to 8”. I pulled out the par meter and took readings throughout the tank. I set the color to 50% and the intensity to 70% during the par study. I’ve attached a picture with my findings. Please excuse the quality of the picture. I was unable to import the file so I had to take a picture of the computer screen.

The area that I live in tends to lose power about a half a dozen times a year. So I decided to pull the trigger and get a whole house generator. 2 years ago when I first attempted entering the saltwater hobby, we lost power for over a day in the middle of winter and I had to scramble to get a portable generator to keep the tank functioning. Now I have that additional insurance that everything will continue to operate without any hiccups.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted updates. I’m currently scratching my head and brainstorming as to how I plan on working on a controller board in the cabinet area. It would be so much easier to deal with the rats nest outside the cabinet but that’s not possible since the tank and cabinet are in the entryway. I liked the concept that @Eight used with the IKEA cabinet but I have the GHL Profilux controller which is more horizontal than the Apex style controller.

@fiberglassmonkey

I’ve posted two links. One is of a gentleman from Australia that shows how he makes the rockscape. The other video is from Tidal Gardens and it references the crazy glue that I used. Let me know if you have additional questions and I’ll help as much as possible.

The pair of clownfish and the red hawkfish are out of quarantine. They competed their QT protocol and are officially in the display tank.

So while I made a trip to the LFS for additional fish food, I browsed the new shipment of fish. I came across a Blue Star Leopard Wrasse. I purchased her and brought her home and put her in the QT tank to get her conditioned first before we started the QT protocol. After doing my research, it seems that this fish is extremely hard to quarantine and the success rate is not that high. I’ll focus on getting her fat and eating frozen before we move onto the next phase. Attached is a pic of her at the LFS.

@Pakman2 congratulations on your fish acquisitions ! How is your Klir performing? Did you ever see Coralvue's hour long video on the Klir? There's a technique to securing the fleece to the spindle. Just glue it on with reef safe superglue.

I'm setting up a Reefer 250 and I have so many questions (if you don't mind):

1. How did you end up shimming your tank to get it level? Any suggestions?
2. Do you have any more information on how you plan to automate the water change station? I’m trying to figure out if I should prioritize a water change station or getting the tank wet first.
3. Do you have a parts list for the plumbing pieces you use to switch from Red Sea to standard PVC? I created a post just a few days ago here trying to figure this out: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/reefer-250-v3-plumbing-help-needed.850247/#post-9254552
4. Did you purchase the return adapters from VCA? I’ve seen a couple post now where the return line is split in two. What are your thoughts on it?
