I love that you can put your ideas into a reality. That’s what this hobby is about. I really like this look. Can’t wait until it’s all up and running with live stocks in it. Keep us posted. Will follow.

There were a lot of trips from the garage to my living room today, but I managed to get 99% of the corals in here and all of the fish. My Randall’s assessor decided he wanted to shove himself deep within a crevice, that I had to carefully break the rock away to free him. Not how I wanted to start, but he made it in with a few missing scales, but no harm done. I broke the confetti off of the rock and I also broke off what I thought was an abro, but now I’m sure it’s a sukarnoi by the funky growth. It’s a little messy, but I’ll have time to remove a few things and actually watch the fish. All I can say is, anthias viewed under daylight spectrum of the halides is nothing short of spectacular. The temp only raised by 0.9 degrees without a fan, so it didn’t even break 78 degrees.

BC bonfire, I think? Still needs to color up. I finally mounted it, so hopefully it’ll take off soon?

I’ve had this piece for a while and it’s starting to take off. Under the halides it has nice deep blue tips.

I’ve had this red table for a long time and I was going to get rid of the whole thing, but I need to keep a piece, it’s doing something nice now. I gave a piece of this to Elliot at @GoldenStateCorals a long time ago and his looks amazing! His has bright red polyps. It’s like a red planet on steroids.

Good afternoon,
I’ve read through your thread the last couple days and I’m following your updates. Your initial lighting setup of Kessils and Orphek bars looked great and grew acro really well! It’s been several months since you’ve installed your MH pendants and Quanta Pros; was wondering how you like your new lighting setup?

Also, congrats on your extreme patience in battling the stuff causing issues with your acro! You’ve been through a lot in the last five years! Amazing

Hey, first off, thank you for reading through everything, I really appreciate it. I haven’t updated much because I’ve been too busy with work and not enough time to update everything properly. But since you’ve had the patience to go through this crazy ride, the least I can do is give a short update. Part of the reason I switched lighting was the fact that I was never really happy with the original canopy that I designed. There were a few things that just bugged me, that I wanted to swap it out for 8020. This would allow me to move and add things without trying to mount everything to wood, etc. plus, I wanted an open top for more air flow. I still love Kessil’s and I’ll always use them on my tanks, so I moved a couple to my nano system, which is kinda cool. I have a small thread in the Kessil sponsor page here that I need to update too.
I absolutely love the combo of metal halides (14k) with quanta pro bars. The overall health of the corals is great and the color is awesome. The fish look amazing under more “natural” lighting. The Ignitus anthias look f’ing amazing! Unfortunately, my attempt at adding more females turned disastrous. It took a while, but the two females eventually joined the group, but after a while, both of them stopped eating and started to hide and I was forced to euthanize them. I was able to move them to the nano in an attempt to get them eating again, but it failed in both cases. Lesson learned, only add anthias as an entire group and don’t add to an established group. I thought I would be okay with just a male and female, but the male was just too much for the new additions. For a short period of time it was nothing short of amazing, seeing all four of them swimming together. Their colors were simply awesome, especially when male was showing off. It reminded me of a flasher wrasse when they would “turn on” “flash” for the others.
I don’t have any current pics to post, but I’ll try to post a few soon. I managed to get rid a few corals that I no longer wanted or had too much of, so I’m making room for a few classics to make their way here. Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and hopefully update more soon. Thanks again for checking out my crazy ride! Happy reefing!

Not rambling at all; bet you will get another group of Anthias someday soon! A friend of mine had a 30” tall tank and he said he wished it was 48” tall in order to watch the Anthias swim up and down during their courtship dance.

I might try another group of Ignitus after these move on, but I really want a group of fusilier damsels, but I can't seem to find them available anymore.

If nobody take frags from your confetti I would take 2 if you still have any available.
Also, I've read your built thread 2 times once in 2021 when I was setting up my second tank and now again just finished it from start to finished in the past 2 weeks. Great build both times. Specially now with the reset. I am working/planning on a reset as well my first tank was a 40 breeder that I drilled, that started my DIY spark. I build my first stand then custom sump, controller board, got into 3d printing as well and I even found a Lazer engraver/cutter at a swap meet in OC area and now I'm just learning and cutting little pieces of acrylic and that. Anyway great progress. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks for reading through the journey. It’s been an adventure. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would use 8020 for the stand, which would allow me to make some changes in the future if needed. Unfortunately, my confetti is taking a hit along with my shortcake. It’s probably a bacterial thing? But, being that I’ve been doing this for a while, I always bank my favorite corals with friends and trusted reefers, so I’ll get a piece back and let out grow again. I’ll do a proper update soon when I’m out of work, which will be in July.
Cheers!

Yes 8020 is much more convenient I made my stand out of metal too I didn't powder coat it like yours but it went thru 3 coats of marine paint(for boats) who did your tank? I'm looking to get a shallow peninsula done more like a raceway than a lagoon but I can't find anyone local to get it done.
Yes I do the same I give a few to reefer friends and I actually convinced my mom's friend to put a reef in her house, the kids love it, but I enjoy it more since I place all my valuable back up pieces there
Ps I'm close to your LFS you mentioned hence the local part.

I had a local builder make my tank through my favorite LFS @GoldenStateCorals Now I want the IM 150 ext, so that may be my next upgrade, as I really love the dimensions of that tank. The IM ext made for order tanks are one of the best deals out there that goes under the radar. The 150 and above are eurobraced, so they are built to last and they look great. But I would do a custom 8020 stand instead of their aluminum stand, which would allow me to wrap it and add custom hardware as needed.
