Third time the charm? No drops so far. Letting it ride a bit. Only 11:30pm!

Also noticed that the return pump was shooting water out of the union. Took it out and the O ring wasn't correctly in place. Retightened it and looks like it's putting all the water into the DT now. Gettin' there.

Home again. It's 3am, time for sleepy sleep. What did I accomplish?
1. No leak in the return.
2. No leak in the return!
3. Didn't turn off the return pump when I left--feel like I can sleep with it running now
4. Murdered Aiptasia. There are so many more to go...
5. Transferred some of the sand bed corals to the new tank including: big trachy, big pectinia, both plates, tall gorg, acan, dendro, lobo, two of the koji wadas and a salvaged piece of red setosa.

Tomorrow:
1. Rest of the tank, maybe?
2. Set up Minnow doser?
3. Set up ATO?
4. Leave it running over the weekend

Gettin' there!

I used Teflon paste recently on my overflow, 3 joints, hand tightened then a little snug up with channel locks and no a single leak. Food for thought next time you plumb? Might be better or i might just be an awesome plumber

Tentacles not extended as much as I'd like, but it ate a few NLS pellets, so hopefully will pull through the temperature shock.

Big trachy is finally out from underneath the giant toadstool and has some room to puff.

Neptune looking better after scraping off the bubble algae that was covering it. Looks like he brought a baby Aiptasia with him...

Dude, is that your space invader pectinia? things getting beefy.

also, that sand is looking a little full. some of those should migrate over to my tank.
Amazing when you think that was a $5 chipped off piece of a pectinia I got from a local in early 2023:

Bit repetitive, but just noticed the plates puffing up nicely under the new Orphek lights:

This guy is just gorgeous. I hope it acclimates and lets its tentacles out again:

Pectinia reminding us why it gets its own corner of the tank (@Goaway )

It's kind of in the shade right now, but I'll have the supplemental lights up soon-ish!

It's been a day. That much can be said. With twoand at times three extra sets of hands, got the rocks out of the 40 and placed in the 83. Scrubbed the rocks a bit. Still a massive amount of Aiptasia. It was sickening looking at the back of the SPS island. I sacrificed large chuncks of the monti because they were growing up along the coral skeleton in an upward march, killing more flesh and replacing with more Aips...

Anyway, incredibly, the pistol shrimp is still alive! I may have to add a other shrimp goby to the list!

The 40 is an absolute mess. Pulling out the sand wrasses was basically upturning the entire sand bed. I imagine I lost a lot of what was left in there, which were many of my zoas and some shrooms, and a few RFAs...

Anyway, running the tank through the weekend.

Love the extra width, and the length gives some breathing room between the islands!

That sand will settle, look for coral ,and cuc tomorrow... ;) :)
Yup, my two eyed willies are still in there along with the rest of the cuc. Pitho crab too. They'll have to make it till Monday. Left the Helio heater and the gyre running for them, though.

Thinking this will be my new SPS island or maybe a Crocea/Maxima clam island. Thinking Garf Bonzai and one or two fancy but hardy acros once everything stabilizes. At 80% power on the Helio program (peak of the program), the top of that rock gets around 400 PAR, I will have to tone it down a bit so I don't cook the sand bed corals. Right now the light is in Acclimation program.

Note: the gorg is there just because I had nowhere to put it at the time. It will reside on a rock in the sand bed once I get time to right all the wrongs done to my stock during transfer!

ok the 2nd drain pipe (in the center without the filter piece on it) seems a wee bit too tall to me. Is that the 2nd or the emergency pipe?
edit nevermind. it is the emergency drain. so the third hole in the overflow you have plugged. any chance you can turn that into a secondary drain? have 100% flow through your primary 50% through the secondary and none through the emergency?
@JoJosReef Do you have 2 or 3 drain lines?

I have 3 on mine. A main drain (that runs at full syphon w/gate valve to accomplish this), a secondary drain ( has just a trickle at all times), and an emergency drain that only sees water for the first 30-60 seconds after a power outage while the other two drains get restarted and purge the air. It takes several minutes for the drains to stabilize and quiet down completely.

I have been running sumped systems on sw and fw tanks for almost 20 years. Never had water on the floor ***knocks on wood***
Fixing the return...

Time to crank it up!
Use this method and you won't have leaks.

What are your plans for the 40 post transfer?
Break down and sell! Also probably selling the Evo, although I'm debating keeping it for an observation/hospital tank.
