Here’s a decent read on alk and calcium relationship.
Thank you for the link.

I think I am understanding it now.

Question for everyone. More I read more I’m confused with 2 part and the chemistry

Last two weeks tank has been consuming .5 - .7 alk.
Ca and mag hasnt budged.
Why won’t Ca be consumed?
Last water change didn’t raise Alk
Why didn't the water change not raise Alk?

Normally Alk is 7.2 Now 6.5
Ca 460
Mag 1390

I was ok with alk at 7.2 but wondering if it being lower now is why Ca and mag are not being consumed

Should I dose only Alk from a two part?
I have ESV Bionic 2 part
With the alkalinity at around 7.2 you don’t have any wiggle room for it to drop lower and you don’t really want it below 7, and also bear in mind test error margins. You could be below 7 already, or of course higher. Your probably not getting much growth and hence the other elements aren’t being used up.

This is why I maintain alkalinity around 8-8.5 as it gives more room for manoeuvre if it ever falls

If you need to add an alkalinity element on its own to boost it up, then just add it.

A water change may not boost alkalinity depending on what it mixes up to. I use red sea standard salt which mixes to around 7, so it doesn’t boost my alkalinity at all.

As above, I would raise alk to around 8.

Back on track. Thanks

So why the restart? What did I miss? I must have read this when I was very tired?
You didn’t miss anything yet. I’m catching fish and keeping some in a temp tank and some will be rehoused. I am doubling the rock and redoing my aquascape before restocking. Some of my original fish won’t allow new comers

I do believe my having only thimbleful of knowledge may be directly related to activity depicted in your posted pic! It might also be all the punches I blocked with my head. Or the drugs. Or, oh look, the sun is hitting a piece of aluminum foil!
