New tank setup, 50/50 Marco & KPS aquatics rock. Only been up for about 3 weeks now with fish only. I have yet to add any corals or clean up crew. This guy stays 100% retracted during the day when the lights are on but only extends at night. What could he be? I only have this one at this time. If I need to get better photos let me know and I can retry. thanks in advance!

If the rock comes out easy you can super glue him. Or you can try squirting him with aiptasia x or similar product. And peppermint shrimp also do a good job controlling them, but can be a bit of a pain by themselves. Don’t try to crush or scrape him...that’s the worst thing you can do.

I have some gel super glue I can try to cover him with. Not sure I can get the rock out but can try to apply it while in the tank.

I got Gulf rock and have a couple of those. I was told by my supplier that the invasive Aiptasia doesn't come from gulf waters. Ive had her in my QT for about 3 weeks just to watch. I also have one in my DT and it hasn't bothered or multiplied.

1000% no doubt! Syringe, microwave boil water, spray on till it is opaque. 100% kill rate and no reproduction.

Email pic to KPS aquatics rock and ask what it is. They will definitely know. I would be interested in what they tell you. KPS's website states "our live rock is 100 % Aptasia free"..... So I believe you are good.
If you do email them ask them about the Lightbulb anemones? I think I have a couple of those also....

Thank you very much for the info!
They do sting and eat small fish and inverts get long stinger tentacles. If it were me I would nuke it but I guess its up to you. Also says they will reproduce rapidly if they catch food. But its probably still more like a BTA On reproduction rate.

I noticed it was stinging my sponge. I put a powerhead directly on it and closed a couple of holes near the sponge. It moved away from sponge. Ive directly fed it frozen foods and Reefroids and loves it.
