Thanks guys, l didn’t realise there had been comments. Thanks for the welcome. I really wanted the 650 but this one came up as a steal. It was a used tank with all the equipment l needed to get up and running, including two maxspect gyres, a Jacob wavemaker, DD UV Steriliser, two reactors, Tunze 9410 skimmer, return pump, heater with controller and two AI Hudra 52’s all for £1600 ($2100). It was too good not to take.
l’ve been slowly buying a used controller system (Aquatronica) and am about there now.
mom still constructing the lounge so not quite ready to put it in to its final resting position before adding water but that’s done me a favour as it’s put the brakes on a bit, otherwise l may have rushed to get the rest of the equipment.
I really want to build a manifold for it but struggling to find and threads/pictures of one on either the 500 or 650 as I’d like to see the layout. Have you seen any?

oh I know about going slow my build is 2 years in the making and I still don't have water in it. check out my build thread for the story...its a crazy ride.

I have had the 650P for 6 weeks now still in the new house and in it place. I also was struggling with the manifold or possibly doing a basement sump or stand alone gear where each piece would have it's own pump. as you know like everything in this hobby and in life there are pros and cons of it all. after lots of research going back and forth I did decide on a manifold.

starting my plumbing today. 1st I'll change out the RS gate valve with a nice spears gate valve. was gonna go cheap and get one off amazon for 1/2 the price but I found an OK deal on on so I just bought it. never had one before so wanted to see what's all the fuse about.

then the manifold plumbing...
I am going with a black and white theme...cuz why not the stand is white but the inside is a mix of black and white so i'll continue whit that.
the manifold will power a UV, ATS and a carbon reactor and one spare just encase.

good luck and happy reefing!

I have. He’s a little boring (yeah, he’s from the UK, but up North somewhere). I’m just about to read your build thread.

wow, great story, the Reno looks incredible. I’m on my fourth (and hopefully final reno) myself. I too vaulted the ceiling, but only in my bedroom, came out really sweet.
I’d be interested to see your final plumbing, especially the manifold. I’m looking to run the manifold from it’s own pump to, I reckon it’ll male tuning the return a lot simpler. Its midnight here and l gotta crash as lm up for work in a few hours but I’ll definitely be following your buile

thanks for the kind words! yeah it has been quite the build. love the vaulted ceiling we did the kitchen and great room but lifted the two spare bedrooms as they where way to short . felt bad yuck.

well after spending a few hours on the plumbing. I also decided to run the manifold off its own pump. like you said it will make tuning the over flow easier and truthfully I could not figure out how to mount the PVC running it off the return pump. so having it run off its own pump makes that so much easier now just got to buy another pump :/
but the good news there is I will get a smaller one just for the RT only need 700-100GPH to get 5+ X turn over rate so it will not be to hard on the wallet.

Hey bud, long time no speak. I’ve finally finished the lounge and got my tank in place. Now the fun begins!! I’ve got a Clarisea and will need to raise it up so it sits in the right depth of water. My problem is that l don’t know what height my water level will be in the sump once it’s wet. Could you let me know your water level height in the sump? I’d also love to see your manifold plumbing as l guess it’s up and running now?

So, l took the plunge and got some odds and sods of plumbing parts and just jumped right in with the manifold build. I’ve still got a way to go but the majority of the plumbing (except for the overflow and feed pipe) is finished and lm just making a start on the electrics.
more to follow…..

Another good weekend on the build, just making it all nice and tidy as l figure it’s a lot easier to do it when it’s still dry .
The next step is to build a cabinet next to the tank to house the monitoring equipment. Whilst doing the build l’ve slowly been building up a monitoring system as and when it came on the used market. I opted for Aquatronica. I’m based in the UK and there seems to be pretty good support for it in Europe.
The 30 litre container in the right (dry) cabinet is a Reefloat ATO, again, another well supported system in the UK. It seems to be better than the Tunze Osmilator, which was my original plan. The sensors actually sit on the outside on the sump and, being the fact that they’re kept dry, would appear to be even more reliable.
I also opted for the Reefloat Auto Water Changer too.
Once the monitoring side is ready I’ll be setting up the RODI supply. My plan is to use a servo to have the ATO permanently hooked up to the RODI. I know it’s a risk but l have water leak sensors on the base of the cabinet as part of the monitoring system. The Aquatronica will shut off the servo/supply if a leak is sensed. I’m also going to install a separate inline shut off leak sensor for redundancy.
I plan to use the Triton method as the UK Testing Centre is about a mile from my front door. I like the idea of no/minimal water changes. I’ve got the AWC for any occasional and emergency water changes.
I’d love some feedback and advice on any of the above.
(for the record, yes, l know the UV feed pipe isn’t connected, it was a touch short but l’ve ordered another metre that should arrive tomorrow ).

RODI Station now built and the water is filling the tank….. I’ve added a few solenoids that’ll control using a simple PLC program and a minimum/maximum level switch that I’ll mount in my ATO allowing me to automate the refilling of the top up. I’ve added a pre-flush solenoid too to run the initial high TDS out. Don’t worry, l’ve got a few leak detectors and fail safes built in, hopefully there’s enough….

Rough schematic for the RODI ATO set up.

Update. I left the tank cycling for a month and have introduced softies. I’m sure I’ll end up with a couple of SPS in the end but certainly not looking for SPS to dominate as l absolutely love the movement of softies & LPS. I have my first two fish, clowns of course
