Hi guys, long time lurker but new member.

My newish (30 days in my tank) and pretty small (3-4in) RBTA has just started splitting but it seems much more peaceful that the ‘ripping’ I’ve seen photos of... Anything I should know? Any insight from the veterans here? Photos are over a 18 hour period.

Cheers,
Matt

Has he started to seperate? I dont see that im the pic. When he splits.he will stretch his foot out in both directions and rip himself in half usually on a sharp rock but not always.

Thanks for the replies! This pic was from 4-5 hours ago,and I’m working now. So that’s as recent as it gets. Any insight how long between this “two head” phase and the ripping? Weirdly enough, I don’t want to miss it! I’ll update pics again this evening. Cheers, Matt

If it’s not splitting.... have you guys seen multiple heads on a single foot? It definitely has tentacles completly in between two mouths. We fed one last night and it closed, then allowed us to feel the other. I thought this was a worse picture but you can pretty clearly see the right mouth and the line of tentacles in the center.

It sure seems like two mouths... the right mouth collapsed on aspen food yesterday and 30 seconds later we fed the left mouth which then collapsed on a second bite. The third picture in the thread you can sort of see a gap/space between the two. I’ll work on better photos ina couple hours. Not sure if I’m more exciters for him to split or be a freak... I just found another thread (linked below), but I don’t ever recall seeing it grow out of the side.

My rbta's have split 3 times in the last 6 years and they always went under the rocks, behind the reef. They never split out in the open. The mom and clone both had very short tentacles on one side following the split. I hope it splits for you though.
