For those of you whom run Calcium Reactors do you use Kalk in your top off as well or no? I have read a couple of different times of people who use kalk along with the calcium reactor. What is the benefit of doing that?

Is it true that there is phosphate in Mrs.Wages?

I run kalk to help keep the ph from falling. The effluent output from the reactor has a very low ph which lowers ph in some tanks, but there are other ways to prevent this. Like using a duel chamber reactor or aerating the effluent to drive off the co2

+1

I don't use kalk myself, but in all practical combinations of using kalk and a ca reactor, reefpoor hit the nail on the head with his explanation.

There are significant implications when using kalk. The precipitation of po4 often creates a molecule of calcium phosphate which can then later be released creating a significant change in nutrient levels.
