Back to your light elevator..Do you feel the pulleys are necessary? I’m thinking to mount the motorized rod over the center of the tank and simply raise it and lower it on the cables. I plan to mount the rod pretty high in the canopy (~32”) so clearance won’t be an issue.

That will definitely work. Just remember if you mount the rod perfectly centered the light will hang away from it by half it’s diameter, if that makes sense. The cable will hang off the outer edge.

Right, I’m looking at a 2” diameter rod so 1” so will offset by that amount. Also do you see any reason I couldn’t do three cables? 1 at each end and 1 in the middle? More uniform support.

I can’t think of a reason not to use three. I didn’t give it much thought, just used two because that’s what ATI uses to support the fixture.

I looked into the strength of derailleur cable and as far as I could tell they are rated to around 250lbs minimum, and most likely much higher.

I also looked into different support mechanisms such as these. Pretty surprising how much they can hold.

OK, yes I’m going with either an 80/20 or Ecotech rail to mount my lights to so want to give it even support so the rail doesn’t bend over time. I like the derailleur cables. $10-15 so can’t beat the cost and nowhere near 250 lbs. Going to go with the S1016 WiFi kit. Like the idea of controlling it from my phone or iPad.

Who’s the sucker that will pay $200 for this? I thought this was an April fools joke at first.

At this point she should be free of velvet trophonts. Now I’m watching for secondary infections and getting her eating well again. I’m doing daily baths with Cipro and methylene blue and that seems to work very well.

I really hope she makes it...

Eheim Jaeger heater suck so bad now. Been using these for decades and never had so many problems. Guess I need to find something else for my QT tanks.

What happened? I have 6 of them I’m using in DT and QT’s. So far, no issues.

I have two that have moisture in them. Like a lot of it. Gonna toss those.

Two others are very inaccurate and I only use those with a separate controller.

Still treating my poor swallowtail for velvet. Hybrid TTM failed due to a technicality... I was doing salvage protocol at the same time, and lowered temperature and salinity. That saved her but changed the velvet lifecycle enough to throw off TTM. She does have a few spots again.

BUT... she looks very healthy otherwise. I started chloroquine phosphate tonight and will continue daily Cipro/methylene blue baths. Fingers crossed.
