EDIT: Updated with tank info

6 month old reef 50 gallon

Salinity: 1.025
PH: 7.8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5
Alk: 8.9dkh
Calcium: 460
Mag: 1440
Phos: .03

Picked up a Kole tang at my LFS over the weekend. All was good. Just now notified 2 large white pimple looking spots on his upper back.

he’s swimming, eating and just doing normal tang things. No other fish (who have been in the tank for ~3months) have these spots.

I tried to take pics but he’s really fast. For reference he’s under 2in.

Those spots look too large to be ich. In the absence of any other symptoms, there may not be anything to worry about (yet). Still, photos taken under blue light are tough to assess, white light is better.

Here is a link to additional background information that is helpful for us to know in trying to diagnose a fish disease issue:

Thanks, I updated the post with additional info.

I took it under blue light because it’s nearly impossible to see in white

Added photo under whites.
You can see it’s longer now

Looks like bacteria growing in the lateral line pores. Is it like that on both sides?

Since it is growing, you may need to treat, but that would require antibiotics in a treatment tank.

Just on the one side.
What do I use to treat?
Which antibiotic to use is always a guess. Most external bacteria on marine fish are gram negative. So - Neoplex is one choice. 250mg/gallon every three days for up to three treatment, but monitor for any ammonia rise.
