What a Christmas surprise. Woke up to these white spots on dory. They are larger than I remember ich being, but I could be wrong, its been a long time since I’ve seen it. And this tank has had no signs of disease since setting it up almost a year ago, so I’m wondering what it could be

I read through the bumble site again to refresh my memory on the diseases, I’m not sure between ich and a fungal infection, or maybe it’s something else.

As you stated, larger than ick, and does not appear to be lympho but may be flukes. If flukes, have you noticed any behaviors such as gills will be red or swollen with rapid breathing, fish acting lethargic or swimming near the water surface, hiding in the corner of tank or behind rocks, loss of appetite, shaking its head, flashing/darting, develop clamped fins, , or scratching against objects. They may also exhibit what looks like yawning from gill irritation develop, cloudy eyes and loss of color .
Neobenedenia flukes are the largest and one other determination of flukes would be- Are they on Both side of fish ?
Is it breathing normal or rapid ?

+1, too large to be ich. This species of tang sometimes develops mucus plugs due to some irritant in the tank. That could be a fluke, could be water quality. In some cases, the cause is unknown and the problem just goes away.

Breathing is fast, but that’s normal for this fish.
Yes on both sides. Mostly the dorsal fin, some under the pectoral fin, and one or two on the body
She had these spots about a week ago actually, they showed up, then went away, and left like a wound, or scar on the body where it was

Assure good water quality and keep an eye on it as Jay suggested. You have a list of symptoms and will know if they end up being flukes

Spots on, spots off, breathing fast, I see some spots that remind me of ick.
If he acts and eats well, just keep a watch.

You mention that the aquarium was set up a year ago. When was this fish added to the DT? Do you quarantine fish? Invertebrates? When was the last time you added any fish or invert to this aquarium?

Same time roughly, I transferred into a bigger tank. Kept the same fish that I have had previously. Haven’t added anything new in a long time.

My qt isn’t as strict as it should be but nothing new has been added and I buy most things from a place that qts. However, still, nothing new in the tank in a very long time. I’m pretty anal about that so that’s why this surprises me.

Are they raised? If not maybe it was stung by something
it’s hard to tell. I’ll look again tomorrow to be sure, but I haven’t ruled that out myself.. thanks
