Late monthly update but system has taken a turn for the worst since i changed the sump. Can only put it down to a huge bacterial shock from removing years worth of good bacteria from all the detritus and gunk in there. Been getting quite a bit of stn about 3 to 4 colonies and mutliple frags. Got cyano for the first time and what looks to be burt tips on some coral. I have never experienced any issues like this before but its all part of keeping coral. Most corals are looking the worst i have ever seen them. Made the mistake now have to wait for things to work themselves out. Even lost some birdsnest and a couple digi are looking pretty sad too.

Just wow!
This in just 4 months? I guess you was keeping all the biodiversity in sump and with the new scape in the display you have removed "the good stuff" hope it will be back on track asap! Keep going!

Unfortunately my tunze was rusting and contaminated the tank, high zinc pretty much wiped out 60 to 70% of the coral. Was an old pump, i saw the discolor of shaft before but didnt pay much attention to it.

So its been a while since last update. Lost interest for a while with pretty much loosing 80% of the coral. Some are still slowly stning but mainly ones which are still grey but all new stuff is fine.
I think the worst is done so time to start collecting again

Glad to see you haven't gave up completely. I really love your Aquascape and the corals you have are looking good.

Well after the first metal issue i had a second which wiped out nearly everything that was left. This time it was the fuge lights had a metal ring which was dripping into water. Took a break and let tank sort it itself out. Nutrients been through the roof also didnt help the cause. Started trying again a month ago. Added a skimmer and got a proper grow light and now chaeto is actually growing like it used to.
Another few months and i think things will be alot better

Great pictures!
Not always easy to pinpoint the reason things goes sideway, last winter i almost lost all my montis and most of my acros were starting to stn, found out i was stripping no3 by cleaning the skimmer too often.
First time something like that happen to me in 16 years of reefing.

Wow do you skim wetter i guess?
I thought i would run higher nutrients this time round but once corals started growing again it stripped them out. BUT since then colours have got better, growth has increased, cyano disappeared. I know alot off ppl say higher nutrients are to good but for what ever reason my system runs better with near ultra low and high light

Tanks been like a on again off again girlfriend. Take some interest for a few weeks then a month of cant be bothered anymore. Thank god for Calrx and Khg which keeps things stable without doing anything.
Started to dose amino and vitamins again this week so hopefully will start to see some improvements with colour. Going to lower alk to 7 to 7.5 range too which is what it was at when tank was at it best 2-3 years back
Sent off an icp to see how trace levels are going. Want to get trace elevated again too to match levels back a few years with boron being around 7, potassium 450, strontium 10

Are you still running the Orphek? How high up? Did you ever test the par? I noticed on page 1 you mentioned 800 par…
tank looks great and glad to see it holding on and rebounding.

Yeah still running them and same par in the middle but running more blue now, instead of reducing blue to 80 for a few hours its just 100% all channels. Changed the schedule this time but lost my original one which i want to switch back to now. Orphek are kinda blue with all channels 100%. But that depends on what you classify as blue. My t5 unit is 50/50 coral plus blue plus which is quite white.
