WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU CHANGED YOUR WATER OUT?

Do you like to do tank maintenance on holidays when you have a day off? (if you have holidays off)

My 125 gallon tank is cycling so I am not doing water changes until the cycle is complete and only then if it needs it.

4.5 gallon water change each week (for my 25 gallon nano) is as easy as filling up a jug like the one on the left with water, adding a 5 gallon pkg of Little Fishies salt, and replacing the existing jug (on the left). I don't even have to turn off the return pump.

Each jug is fitted with an auto-off quick disconnect so the change is super fast and no drips. Also, I don't need to worry about temperature and I only need to mix the saltwater a few minutes as it takes over 4 hours for the complete new saltwater jug to completely swap out from the existing system (it's on a very slow transfer rate). Of course my overflow moves much more water through a different overflow line.

As you can see, we're still in the beginning phase as I just moved from my 5 gallon Pico where I tested this concept.

Here's a video from the Pico thread where I do a ~5 gal water change in under a minute. I know longer need the heater or the pump.

Is it mainly to replenish trace minerals? Maybe I’m over thinking this but with daily water changes, isn’t it less effective at removing nitrates and other things you want to export?
So I was doing weekly 20% changes on my 75 gal system for 2 years. When I upgraded i won a full apex set up and decided to try daily water changes to see if it would be more beneficial. I'm doing roughly 1.5% daily and its been keeping my nitrate and phosphate perfectly stable. I am still dosing alk and calc manually daily at this point waiting for a second dose to come in.

Yesterday! Came home to find the dog sitter WAY over fed. There were pellets all over the sand. I had to vacuum the sand to remove as much of the excess food as possible. I only have two small clownfish so far. I think I’m going to be investing in a auto feeder for next time.

I used to do 15% every 90 days, now I just change 5% weekly, I don’t have to shut down any equipment to do that. Only difference I notice is my Kh/Ca is more stable.

I have a 90g mixed reef and I like to do a 35 gallon wc at least once a month. I mostly do them just to get debris out of the sump and sand bed.
Wow, that seems to be a lot, I only do 5 gals a week. If I do it once a month I only do 15 max. That would shock the hell out of my corals.

I prep my water on thursday and let it “stew” for Friday water change. In the summer this is nice because we get early release every Friday so I don’t have to spend time on the weekend doing it.

The question should figure out also : How much water from the reservoir do you add each week ? Cause it's a form of waterchange...
