See Eric's post above - I've seen that help. Giving it a FW dip works even better - not only is there the mechanics of catching the fish, but the FW can help purge things.

Epson salt also helps ease constipation.

Yes, but not in SW fish (magnesium sulfate is already the fourth most common salt in seawater mixes,so adding a bit more won't change anything). It does help when added to the water in FW tanks. For SW fish, it needs to be mixed into the food at 1%

We actually find epson salt really helpful in saltwater for constipation and eye swelling, and helps pass internal parasites....it's been working for us and some customers have been regularly using it too. ....we were dosing a tablespoon per 5 gallons.....

what do ya think of this level of dosing? Placebo?

Well, I can't say for certain. That is a lot of mag sulfate - about double the normal amount in seawater, so maybe it would help?

We have used this method often as a way to pass parasites in fish, after feeding deworming meds.....and it does help the fish pass more easily. The biggest improvement we have seen using this method is in reducing swelling on bulged eyes. Pretty miraculous results.
