Nirvana frag on May 12th

Nirvana frag today (this May be a weed lol)

Just had my kalk stirrer nozzle clog. Not sure how long it was clogged but there was a little bit of water on the floor so at least a day. I saw a .5 dkh drop in Alk so I started looking to see what was going on. I’m now checking it weekly as one of my apex alerts

Yep, I should start a thread of things you should check on a regular basis. My apex calendar is full of little reminders lol and I’m sure they would help others

I don’t see too many branching SPS in there yet, but are you concerned about shadowing? I’m beginning to find as my acros grow they are shading themselves significantly or not being lit enough down their sides as they grow vertically with a single Kessil. I’m considering switching to two A360Xs now myself for this purpose. Or else the AquaticLife Hybrid system though I don’t know how that would look as a pendant on a small tank.

Yeah that may become an issue in the future. If it does I have the orphek Atlantic I can put over the tank or I can always get a second 360x. For now I have been putting sps in the center of the tank which should help eliminate the issue in the short term

So I got a 4 bulb ati SunPower fixture for a great price. The goal is to use it over a frag tank. I have to say the light output is great I measured it with my apogee and it is 250 par at the egg crate level. I may have to raise it up as I plan on growing zoas in here. This tank has been running for 6 months with fish being quarantined on and off so hopefully it will do fine for frags

Did some par measurements today

In the 25 the par at the top where the acro’s are growing is about 250-275. At the bottom along the edges it’s 150-175 (it’s pretty consistent as it seems the glass does reflect a lot of the light back onto the bottom so directly under the light it’s 175 and on the edges of the tank it’s 150+.

In the 8 I had raised the light intensity to 250 at the top and 200 on the bottom but my paly’s didn’t like that at all. I have since lowered the top to 200 and bottom to 150. I only have some monti cap and scroll coral in there and they don’t mind the lower par so I may keep it there unless I decide to move the paly’s somewhere else
