Well I just got a new tank and I’m going to plumb it into my current 8g nano tank build (this is my wife’s tank)
I started this thread to focus on this tank and how it will be built out.

Some specs

Tank: 25g IM nuvo Black
Overflow: eclipse M
Return: drilled 3/4” lock line (single right now but I may do dual returns
Plumbing: blue sch 40 pvc with grey sch 80 fitting (1” for the over flow and 3/4” for the return)
Stand: I’m going to build the stand out of 1” 80/20 extruded aluminum with pvc panels
Internal flow: 1 x icecap 1k so far
Lighting: to be determined, I may move my Orphek Altantik v4 over it but I’m also considering a xr30. I need to decide what I want but I have time.
Filtration: it will tie into my current trigger ruby 20c with a cor15 and a manifold for the return

I’m always a bit jealous of folks who are handy and can build their own stands. Look forward to seeing yours. Maybe if I see enough folks home built stands I’ll have the courage to build one some day

I’ll put the plans up once I finalize them. 80/20 is like a big erector set. You order all the parts and then just screw it all together.

I’m going with a stand that is 36”x24” by 36” tall. I want it to be large enough to have room for doing tests and fragging on the side plus be able to put all my equipment including a separate compartment for electrical equipment.

As you can see from this pic I have a lot of stuff on my 8g. This tank will bring my total water to close to 50g which will help a ton with stability.

Can’t wait to see how this starts turning out :D

I apologize up front it will be a slower build but I’m pretty excited to make my first stand with 80/20 aluminum. Cleaning up all the random equipment from my 8g nano build is my goal so lots of planning needed.

Nice! I just bought the 25 nuvo black, couldn't pass up the Marine Depot sale. I was thinking of doing a 80/20 stand, but may build an ADA style stand with some exotic wood? I plan on getting the modular marine overflow, so I'll follow your thread to see how the drilling goes for you?

That is why I have this tank, couldn’t pass 50% off up. I have a couple ada style stands that I built with edge joined aspen. I would do the same for this but I can’t get the aspen anymore. I’m a big high tech planted tank fan as well as reefs. Let me know if you want some tips. The 80/20 is a new idea for me and I think I can get an ada look from it which is why I’m going this route (I hate external hardware on my stands)

Well I ordered the 80/20 aluminum for the stand. I’m going with a 36x24 by 36 inch tall stand. I wanted it to be taller since it’s a shallow tank and I wanted the stand to be bigger so I can fit my trigger 20c sump along with the rest of my equipment.

I plan on having the tank all the way to the front and to one side. That will allow me to push the stand all the way up against the wall and have the plumbing run through the top of the stand. I will also have 12”’s on the side to use for testing and other things that having a small shelve help with.

I'm interested in how much the 80/20 cost you? You can pm me if you want? I'm still on the fence with building a solid wood ada style stand or going the 80/20 route, but cost will be the deciding factor.

For the full frame and all the hardware to assemble it was $170. That includes extra top and bottom supports that will go front to back.
The aluminum was about $105 and the hardware was $65

I still have to get the top and the panels to make the sides and front. It looks like those will be another $109-$150 so total of around $300 or so for the stand.

If you figure a IM nuvo aluminum stand for the 50g which is 30”x24” is around $600 it’s a pretty good deal.

It gets better if you figure it is modular so if I want to make it bigger all I have to do is get some some longer prices of aluminum for some of the dimensions and I can reuse everything else.

Random and I don’t know if it would ever happen again but I got the 25/40 stand for 279. Probably useless info now that you already have the stuff.

Thanks for the info

I needed a bigger stand since my sump is a trigger 20c which is 20”x20”. The 25/40 aps stand wouldn’t fit the sump

Thanks! Now I'm rethinking skinning an 8020 stand?

Once I get it built I will give some feedback on strength and if the hardware I used is a good choice (there are lots of options lol)
