I was just wondering how far above water level my lights should be? Right now they are 14" above and I have a slight shadow in middle top of my tank from brace. Should I bring them down until the shadow is gone? 165w blue and white leds.

Mine are at 12 inches above water. Depends on what lens you have. 120 degree give more spread.

8-12". And again, it would all depend on the optics and how much coverage you want a certain unit to cover.
