So I re-aquascaped about a year ago, and it's having it's issues with flow and what not...I may redo it in the future..

How does everyone feel about putting their live rock in the center versus putting it against the back wall?

Are there advantages and/or disadvantages to each?

I've noticed with this setup Ive been running for the past year, I'm having flow issues and detritus build up. I thought about redoing it and possibly adding/removing more sand as time goes by. I'm not really liking the look of my current substrate, as it gets filthy quick and you can see every little spec of detritus buildup. I thought about taking the next 6 months and replacing it with different sand in small increments. Would that work?

what is tank size & powerheads used, any pix? center design with tunnel would provide better flow thru and around the rocks.

I always put rock at least 1 inch away from back wall for this exact reason.

Now I converted the tank to pennensula so its even more centered.

This is my current set up. The rock is in the center of the tank.
120g (72"x18"x24")
1300gph power heads (2)

aquascape appears fine unless rocks are right up against the back glass. For that tank size if detritus is settling perhaps need stronger powerheads. When I switched from powerheads to gyres, I never looked back. Gyres move ton of water and now only need 2 gyres vs 4-5 powerheads before.
