That shell does not show any new growth to me. Very nice. Good luck with it.

I can see newer growth however it seems the ‘new’ growth has algae growing over it - a clam should always have pretty much a clear white strip just below the mantle.I just picked up my first clam (maxima, yea i know, but its whats more readily available here).
as you can see its a pretty big specimen.
Just after being put in my general coral/invert qt tank. I have added an extra light so i can reach 450 par without cooking all the other corals.
The clam has been sitting in 200ish par at the lfs for 3 months but still shows what to me seems like new growth. I have read people here suggesting you can just blast them but reading Fartherrees book he suggests light acclimating them to higher par so that is what i will do.
Here is two hours or so after placment in the tank
It definitively has a band of much whiter shell near the top which I attributed to new growth, but it’s difficult to know what it should look like as a first time purchaser. That shell does not show any new growth to me. Very nice. Good luck with it.
That sounds amazing I hope to see that set up I want to do something like that!Yes a maxima. I converted the middle section of my sump as a clam lagoon with rock, sand, and a pair of mangroves. There are 2 other maximas at the lfs that have been there a few months. I may have to grab those if I don't find a green maxima.
I took better care of my beautiful Crocea and was rewarded with it coloration return to it’s former glory. Not the best Crocea I had but still beautiful nevertheless.
The green fluorescent coloration seem to be the one that require the most light in clams IME. The dark green without fluorescent does not require as much light.
Nice Noae. I really wanted that one.My latest addition. Sorry for the crappy pic.
Tridacna mbalavuana.
AKA devil clam, where did you find that??Tridacna mbalavuana.
Pacific East Aquaculture a few years back. Haven't seen one since. They had a green one not to long before I bought this one.AKA devil clam, where did you find that??
Nice! I always look at their clam selection when new shipments arrive. I think they had one.. maybe 2 come in last year but they were blue/green if I recall.Pacific East Aquaculture a few years back. Haven't seen one since. They had a green one not to long before I bought this one.
