You can do same without any moving parts that could fail.

It's called Carlson Surge Device

Small world! I read your post and thought about how I derivedd quite a few iterations of Carlson Surge Devices (various manifold configurations) over the years, then I clicked the video. That's actually my video, from my first real frag tank that I built years ago.

Cheap Dollar Store colander. After drip acclimating any fish I use this to gently 'scoop' them into the tank. You all probably think I'm nuts, but the fish generally go peacefully into the colander and can then be gently eased into the tank without injury from nets, etc. Something about the color also seems to have a calming effect on them.

Not too wacky, but stainless steel straw siphons come in real handy for sucking out invasive mushrooms and other offending bits.

I've been wanting to make one of these, what size straw did you use and where did you get them? thanks!

Not sure of the exact measurements, but they are about the same size as drinking straws...so a little thin for some jobs. I got about a dozen of them on Amazon in a pack of straight and bent in different lengths.

A simple 1" siphon for water changes.
Make the short end the right length to drain whatever you need & you can drain into a sink or toilet, stops by itself when suction breaks.
