Locally owned pet shop...

Why would an entire bank of tanks be tinted green? Some sort of treatment? They have another bank that is clear.

I tried searching and all it came up with is algae bloom. They’ve been like this for at least a month, perhaps longer.

I haven’t asked the employees... not sure I would trust the answer.

Is the water tinted? Or perhaps the lights?

Typically LFS tanks are connected together so I’m thinking it may be the lights

I don’t think it’s the lights, that was my first thought too. I ducked my head under and they’re running T8s and have the same lamps on a variety of other tanks including freshwater.

Maybe it is, but I’m thinking it’s tinted water. Systems are inter-connected, but only in certain sections from what I can tell.

I can’t see the entire filtration because it’s largely behind a wall. They do have massive UV filters mounted overhead. Each tank is a 10g with an airline anchored in each.

Found this on their FB from 2yrs ago. Based on the heaters and my guesstimation... it’s on a larger separate tank.

Why don't you just ask them?

The place is a bit sketchy and I'm debating whether I trust anything that is happening, but it's the only show in town other than Petco.

Owner is the one who handles all the maintenance for the fish and I haven't been there when he is.

The other employees have not demonstrated any knowledge about anything thus far.

Why don't you just ask them?

Agree. A casual "Why's the water green?" Shouldn't hurt. Even if you don't trust the answer, it'd be interesting to see what they say. Then you can research their answer on your own and see if it lines up. Only way to learn is to ask. Speculation gets us nowhere.

Its either medicated, or high bloom if spores from algae.
Is the display by chance at or facing a window and getting direct or indirect lighting from window?
Not good for image with either cause.

I'm guessing it's a bad algae bloom. I'd take that over dinos any day, lol.

Could also be medication. I'm leaning more toward algae though. I would have asked the people working there.

Kinda looks like a phyto culture.

Pretty sure it's medicated, I didn't know there were treatments that caused the water to change like that.

I'll have to find time to go in and quiz someone.

So, I asked...

The clerk said that entire bank is treated. When they get a shipment, everything goes in to one of those tanks and stays there for about 3 weeks. If during that time they see something more extreme the fish is removed to a QT tank behind the curtain.

She couldn't or wouldn't tell me what product was being used.

Theoretically, the fish in the clear water have been QT'd to a reasonable level, which is a plus.

Their frag tank has a full blown aiptasia infestation. Also multiple bleached out corals. Quite sad actually.
