Right now i have 2x250w MH on a 65 gallon tall running 5.5 hours a day. I was wanting to take that down to about 4.5 can i jsut make the change or should i do that gradually. I know when you go up you do it incrementally but i have never really taken it down so i am not sure. Let me know your thoughts

You can drop that down. the reason you slowly increase light is to prevent an over exposure comparable to you getting a sunburn. Reducing the light an hour would only mess up the coral's day-night schedule for a little while. I've noticed this mainly with my Bulb tip anemone if I set the timer to constant power and leave the lights on to long. It would still retract at it's usual dark time. When I added LED actinics which stay on much later thant the halides, it took some time for the coral and anemone to adjust and stay open longer.
